In the movie, Shaymin is the Gratitude Pokémon. Shaymin can communicate with telepathy. It has a slight problem of arrogance and it is always talking about the gratitude that the people should have towards it. Its deadly experience from being caught in the middle of Giratina and Dialga's fight caused Shaymin to grow a habit of running from everything and screaming "I'm going to be eaten!" even to people or Pokémon who have no intention of doing so. Shaymin seems to complain a lot, saying things like "You could have washed me a little more gently!" They soon realize that they are dealing with a real smart-mouth. Shaymin always talks about wanting to go to "that place" which really irritates Ash because he doesn't know what Shaymin's talking about. At first, Shaymin seems to like Dawn more. It also likes to be held by Dawn and other people that it feels comfortable with, like Leila. When Dawn's not holding Shaymin it usually rides on Ash's head. Shaymin sometimes blows black smoke in Ash's face or insults him, usually calling him stupid when he cannot answer a question, or doesn't understand something. The little Pokémon admits that it never hated Ash at all-- it really considers him a nice friend. Shaymin, who up until now has been boasting "Be grateful to me," finally tells the group "I'm grateful." All the other Shaymin in the garden change into their Sky Formes at will and fly around happily. Trivia

  • Shaymin's flowers become a dark color if they suck up poisonous air.
  • The owner of the blog All About Pokémon Figure gave some brief details about the movie's manga, whose plot and storyline is almost the same. But since this issue was published before Sky Forme was revealed, some things are changed-- when Shaymin toucheed the Glacidea pollen, flowers on its back bloomed and became more aggressive, attacking Zero's Magnemite and provoking Giratina, whereas in the movie, it did so in its Sky Forme. When it wanted to fly it rode on a Wingull instead of flying on its own. One detail says that when Shaymin refers to itself, it uses the Japanese pronoun 僕 boku (meaning I or me, only used by males).
