Persian (Japanese: ペルシアン Persian) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
It evolves from Meowth starting at level 28.
Biology
Physiology
Persian resemble a large feline, such as a cougar. Its tail has a distinctive whorl at the end of it, similar to its pre-evolution Meowth. Its luxurious fur is pale tan, with the exception of its black-colored ears. Perhaps its most distinctive feature is the red jewel in the center of its forehead. Many Pokémon, particularly those with elemental powers such as Espeon and Staryu have similar jewels. However, as Persian does not demonstrate any affinities to a particular element this connection can be seen as purely coincidental.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Its thick whiskers are very sensitive to changes in air movements, permitting it to detect its prey on the basis of movement alone.
Behavior
Persian, although popular for their elegant airs, are extremely hard to raise. Underneath its refined facade is a fierce predator. It will Scratch anyone, including its trainers with little or no reason. It has been observed ripping its prey apart for no discernible reason. A useful trick to know when training Persian, is that if it is yanked by its whiskers, it becomes temporarily docile. The reason for this is unknown.
Habitat
Persian usually live in towns and cities. They can also occasionally be found in vibrant forests.
Diet

In the anime
Giovanni has a Persian that is his primary Pokémon. It is almost always seen at his side.
Ash battled a Persian in The Mandrin Island Miss-Match. The Classy Cat Pokémon took out Ash's Squirtle after hitting it with Thunderbolt.
In Saved by the Beldum!, Tyson's Meowth defeated a Persian owned by a girl named Vivica during the preliminaries of the Hoenn League.
A Persian also appeared beside Giovanni in Malice in Wonderland as an illusion created by Mismagius.
In the manga
In Template:PSV of Pokémon Special, Super Nerd William is seen using a Persian to attack Yellow. It scratched the walls of buildings to create dissonance to disorient Yellow.
The same Persian is seen again in Template:PSV as William spars against Boy Scout Bozz's Haunter.

Trivia
- In Generations I-III, Persian learned Pay Day by leveling up just like Meowth, but it no longer does in Generation IV, meaning that a Meowth must hold back on its evolution to get a Persian with Pay Day.
- Both of Persian's abilities can be used by a member of the Tyrogue evolution line (Hitmonlee has Limber, and Hitmontop has Technician).
- Persian's ears are pointed in its Red and Blue sprites. This is changed in later games.
Origin
Its appearance is arguably more similar to Siamese cats than its namesake, while others think Persian look more like big cats such as pumas. The gem on its head can make it resemble a Carbuncle, a Latin-American mythological beast which had a jewel on its forehead.
Name origin
Persian's name simply refers to Persian cats. It could also be related to purr, one sound a cat could make.
In other languages
- German: Snobilikat - Comes from snob, nobilis (Latin for precious) and Katze (cat).
- French: Persian
- Korean: 페르시온 Pereusion
- Chinese (Taiwan): 貓老大 Mau Lau Da - 貓 means "cat," while 老大 means an elder or rudely, boss. Possibly relating to Giovanni's Persian.
- Portuguese (Brazilian animé): Persa
