Claydol's chest has white ring-like patterns with extensions of the design pointing downward and yellow circles in the middle. Claydol’s cannon-like arms are kept close to its body although their tips can be removed by levitating them with psychic power.

Its design is similar to the 遮光器土偶 shakōkidogū - a "spaceman" clay figurine from the Jōmon period of Japanese history.
Name origin
Claydol's name appears to be a combination of clay, idol, and possibly doll as well. Judging by the pronunciation, it may also be a combination of clay and dreidel, because Claydol and its pre-evolution look like tops. Nendoll is probably a combination of 念 nen, thought, and doll. Nen is found in various compounds having to do with ESP-related phenomena, for instance, 念写 nensha, spirit-photography, and 念動 nendō, telekinesis. It may also be (as the English name suggests) a combination of 粘土 nendo, "clay," and doll.
In other languages
German: Lepumentas - From Lehm (clay), Puppe (doll), and mental.
French: Kaorine - Comes from kaolin, a type of clay used as a medicine for upset stomachs.
