Golbat (Japanese: ゴルバット Golbat) is a dual-type Poison/Flying Pokémon.
It evolves from Zubat starting at level 22, and evolves into Crobat via happiness.
Biology
Physiology
Golbat has a large mouth with four fangs. It now has a small pair of eyes. Golbat has a short pair of legs that possess only one toe each, and the tails it possessed as a Zubat seem to have disappeared. Golbat's ears are much smaller compared to Zubat's, being triangular in shape and having ear insides that do not appear chambered. Golbat's wings, unlike Zubat, also only have one 'finger' instead of two.
Gender differences
A female has smaller fangs.
Special abilities
They have a nasty bite. They can also confuse foes with high-pitched screeches.
Golbat basically have the same abilities as Zubat, only stronger. Even though Golbat isn't a fully evolved Pokémon, it can use Hyper Beam and Giga Impact.
Behavior
Golbat tend to be gluttonous and are prone to drinking blood until they get too heavy to fly straight.
Habitat
Golbat can be found quite easily in caves, particularly in caverns with limestone, which enhances their ultrasonic radar. Much like Zubat, it can be found in most regions.
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food
It loves the blood and energy of humans and Pokémon and at night it flies around looking for victims. But when it absorbs blood its blood type changes to the same blood type as its victims.

Trivia
- Golbat, its evolution, its pre-evolution and Lucario have three double resistances, second only to Heatran
- Golbat is the first Pokémon in the National Pokédex listing to gain a new evolution in a later generation.
- To date, every villainous team in the main series of games have had at least one of their members use Golbat and/or one of its evolutionary family.
- Zubat and Golbat have been in all regional Pokédexes.
- Golbat and Chansey are the only Pokémon that evolve by happiness that are already evolved. Before Generation IV, Golbat was the only one.
- Until Generation IV, both Golbat and Zubat could not learn Fly.
- In EP196; Control Freak! Tiara and Brock explain that Golbat must be interfering with the sonic-waves emitting from the scepter that Jessie was wielding, but it may be a possibility that Golbat's ability, Inner Focus, allowed it to remain in control of itself.
- Red and Blue Versions are the only places were Golbat's tongue is seen.
Origin
Golbat is likely based on a vampire bat.
Name origin
Golbat's name is possibly derived from the words gold and bat. It might be a shortening of golden-capped fruit bat, the largest bat species in existence. However, it may also be derived from the words ghoul and bat.
