Mr. Mime (Japanese: バリヤード Barrierd) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves from Mime Jr. when leveled up while knowing Mimic.

Biology

Physiology

Mr. Mime has a round, white body with a red spot in the middle. Its light-pink arms and legs are connected to its body by red spheres. Mr. Mime has white, five-fingered hands and black feet that curl upward at the end. Mr. Mime has a pink head with red cheeks and blue, frizzy hair.

Gender differences

Special abilities

Mr. Mime is able to bring invisible barriers that it mimes into existence. These barriers can repel harsh attacks.

Behavior

Mr. Mime are very prideful of their pantomime acts. Anyone that dares to interrupt a Mr. Mime while it is miming will get slapped silly.

Urban Pokémon

Mr. Mime are usually very rare, however, they seem to congregate in suburban areas. They seem to be most common in Kanto and Sinnoh.

Mr. Mime first appeared in It's Mr. Mime Time. Ash and co. were looking for a Mr. Mime to replace another one that was supposed to perform in Stella's circus. Ash originally dressed as one to encourage the old Mr. Mime, soon confusing his mother when a wild Mr. Mime arrived at her house.

Other

In Stage Fight, a Mr. Mime was part of a showboat stage show along with other Pokémon.

Mr. Mime also appears in Hail to the Chef under the ownership of Rhonda, a girl who lives outside Saffron City who was competing with her sister, who owned a Sneasel, for the ownership of her father's restaurant.

Another one appeared in Historical Mystery Tour! under the ownership of a Clown.

Another one appeared in Short and To the Punch! under the ownership of Clayton. It battled Ash's Buizel twice, beating it the first time but losing the second due to Buizel's Ice Punch.

Episode Pokémon Source Entry EP064 Mr. Mime Ash's Pokédex Mr. Mime, the Barrier Pokémon. It uses pantomime to make actual walls appear. Because it is rarely discovered, information about this Pokémon is extremely limited.

Sabrina's Mr. Mime in Pokémon Adventures

Mr. Mime was first seen under the control of Sabrina in Pokémon Adventures, generating a Light Screen to seal off the whole of Saffron City.

The same Mr. Mime was seen again during the Gym Leader faceoff, using its miming powers to trap Bugsy and defeat his Heracross.

Crystal now had a Mr. Mime, revealed to have been caught during the Emerald arc.

Trivia

• Although its English and French names suggest that it is exclusively male, female Mr. Mime are just as common as males, and in Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver, Sabrina herself has a female Mr. Mime as one of her Pokémon. In fact, it is her only female Pokémon until HeartGold and SoulSilver's rematch.
  • This is due to the lack of genders in the Generation I games when it was introduced. However, the "Mr." part of its name appears to be just part of its name, rather than a title - (probably due to this not being a part of its Japanese name).
• The Mr. Mime obtained through an in-game trade in Pokémon Red and Blue was nicknamed Marcel. This is possibly an homage to the late Marcel Marceau. However, this was not kept in Pokémon Yellow or Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen; the same Mr. Mime is nicknamed Miles and Mimien, in those games, respectively.
• There was a guest villain in an episode of The Powerpuff Girls named "Mr. Mime".
• Mr. Mime originally had four fingers on its hands. This was changed to five in Pokemon Emerald and every game since. It should be noted that the anime version of Mr. Mime always had five fingers.
• In the Hebrew dub of the anime, Mr. Mime was often confused for a Template:Type2 Pokémon in Israel, as "Mayim" (water) is pronounced very similar to "Mime".
• Mr. Mime was the first species with a space in its name, as well as the first one with a period and the first one whose name was more than one word; the space in its name was only reflected in the handheld games starting with Generation III, however. Only in Generation IV was the second such species introduced: its baby form, Mime Jr.
  • Mr. Mime is also one of eight Pokémon whose name has a non-alphabetic character in it, the others being Nidoran♀, Nidoran♂, Farfetch'd, Porygon2, Ho-Oh, Mime Jr. and Porygon-Z.

Origin

It appears that it is based on a combination between a clown and a mime - together with a popular pantomime, pretending to be trapped in invisible boxes.

Name origin

Mr. Mime's name simply refers to mimes. Its Japanese name may be a combination of barrier and weird - indicating its ability to erect invisible walls - or barrier and barricade.
