Bastiodon (Japanese: トリデプス Torideps) is a dual-type Rock/Steel Pokémon.

It evolves from Shieldon starting at level 30.

Biology

Physiology

Bastiodon appears to be a cross between a Zuniceratops and a bulldozer. The small, shield-like growth this Pokémon had before evolution has grown into a large shield bearing some resemblance to a castle wall, with yellow spot patterns on it. The shield is large enough to protect Bastiodon from attacks. On its feet, smaller, shield-like growths sprout upward to protect the Pokémon's legs. There are also small gray spikes on a ridge of black along Bastiodon's back. Bastiodon's tail is also black in coloration.

Special abilities

Aside from Bastiodon having amazing defensive capabilities, it can learn some powerful attack oriented moves, such as Metal Burst and Iron Head.

Behavior

Despite its rough, aggressive appearance, Bastiodon is surprisingly timid and caring. It will go to great lengths to protect the young in its herd.

Habitat

Fossils from which Bastiodon's pre-evolved form can be resurrected are only known from the Sinnoh region.

Diet

Byron's Bastiodon

Bastiodon made its debut appearance in the anime in Ancient Family Matters! under the ownership of Byron. It also appeared in Dealing With Defensive Types! where it was used in the gym battle against Ash.

In the manga

Diamond's Shieldon, nicknamed "Pū," evolved into a Bastiodon fighting at the Galactic Veilstone Building. Already a sturdy Pokémon prior to evolving, this solidified its strong defenses even more.

Trivia

• Bastiodon has the highest Defense and Special Defense stats of any Pokémon that is evolved from a Pokémon revived from a fossil.
• Bastiodon's head forms the wall of the castle in Courtyard Colosseum.
• Bastiodon could possibly be an ancient relative of the Aggron evolutionary family, since they have similar typing, appearance, and very similar move sets. This could also be indicative of the fact that Aggron can learn Bastidion's signature move, Metal Burst.

Origin

Bastiodon is based on a Ceratopsian dinosaur. Its protective growth resembles a castle wall. Its head bears resemblance to that of Zuniceratops.

Name origin

Bastiodon is a combination of bastion and don, a suffix on various dinosaur names. It is also possible that its name came from bastille. Torideps's name comes from a combination of the words 砦 toride, fortress, and Triceratops.
