(Japanese: ミジュマル!メグロコ!危機一髪!! Mijumaru! Meguroco! Close Call!!) is the third episode of the Best Wishes series, and the 660th episode of the Pokémon anime. It aired in Japan on September 30, 2010.
Synopsis
Template:Incomplete synopsis Ash is traveling along with Iris towards Sanyou City, where the first Gym is in the Isshu region. Tensions rise after Iris and Ash argue about who was following who, which lead to some name calling. When suddenly the Mijumaru that helped them defeat Jessie, James, and Meowth in the previous episode emerges. It turns out that Mijumaru has followed Ash since their encounter at Professor Araragi's lab. Iris thinks that the Mijumaru followed her all the way, but she has to swallow her pride. Mijumaru then shows its fondness of Ash by climbing on him and pushing Pikachu off his perch on Ash's shoulder. Pikachu clearly distressed by this then tries to use Thunderbolt on Mijumaru, but Mijumaru deflects it into Ash via its shell much to Iris' pleasure.
It is then made apparent Mijumaru wants to be caught by Ash. So Ash tries to catch it by throwing a Poké Ball which then hit Mijumaru hard on the head, flew high into the sky and failed to catch it. Ash then realizes this is the Mijumaru from the first episode and so belonged to Professor Araragi already and thus can't be caught. So Ash talks to Professor Araragi about the situation. She is relieved that her Mijumaru is safe and transfers the ball to Ash.
After Ash receives Mijumaru's ball he turns around to find that Mijumaru isn't with them any more. They head outside and decide to search for Mijumaru. Thought the second they start searching the fall into a pitfall trap that was set on the road. They look up and see a young boy called Dan who explains that trap was dug by a Meguroco. At the same time the trio fall down a pit fall trap and encounter a Meguroco that is wearing sunglasses. Dan then helps Ash and Iris out of the pitfall by using a rope and explains that he is a young boy that helps his father run a spa resort hotel. Although their spa isn't open right now to due the Meguroco. There is a flashback to explain that the Meguroco that wears sunglasses appeared one day and made the rest of the (usually peaceful) Meguroco to act irrationally.
Ash then thrust the challenge of solving this mystery upon him self. He decides that the best thing to to is to replicate what was going on the first time the Meguroco first started rampaging. So Ash, Pikachu, and Iris's all have a sand bath. Meanwhile the Team Rocket trio are watching Ash when the Meguroco that wears sunglasses turns up and has been apparently following them since they fell into its trap. Iris reminds Ash that they were originally looking for Mijumaru. Ash then suddenly rises from his bath, but all stress was relieved when the see Mijumaru taking a sand bath just opposite them.
The Meguroco that wears the sunglasses then burrows towards Ash and friends. It then leaps out of the sand and get ready in battle formation. Dan reveals that it is the Meguroco's leader. It then launches an attack and grabs Kibago in its mouth. Pikachu readies a Thunderbolt attack but is then stopped by Iris as her Kibago would take the damage. The entire team (excluding Dan) then wrestle the Meguroco in an attempt to get Kibago back. The Meguroco only relinquishes its grip of Kibago when one of Pikachu's ears tickles the inside of Meguroco's ear. Everybody then stumbles back. Meguroco takes the opportunity. It lashes out. Managing to grab Pikachu by an arm and Mijumaru by its foot/flipper. The Meguroco then starts to run away with the two others until team rocket pick up the Meguroco using some sort a crane.
Team Rocket then start to drive away with the three Pokémon dangling in front of them. In an attempt to get away Meowth throws a smoke grenade at our heroes. It appears that Team Rocket had finally stolen Pikachu and gotten away with it until the front left of the crane sinks into the ground. It is made apparent that the Meguroco's leader had called upon a mass attack upon Team Rocket. Ash and crew catch up just in time to see the attack unfold. All of the Meguroco use dig at once and Team Rocket are forced to flea and Meguroco's leader was set free.
Meguroco's leader then takes its two captors to a certain spot and lets them go, the Pokémon are unaware that Ash, Iris, and Dan are watching from afar. It turns out that the Meguroco have gathered other Pokémon. The Meguroco's leader says something and a geyser erupts in the background. The Meguroco then herd the gathered Pokémon away from were they are at, leaving Pikachu and Mijumaru behind. Quickly there is a sudden increase in the amount of erupting geysers. Dan makes a comment about how this has never happened before. Dan makes a hypothesis that the Meguroco's leader predicted that this event would occur and tried to scare away all of the people and Pokémon so they were safe.
Ash then goes to talk to Pikachu and the Meguroco spot him. Then a sequence of massive geysers go off. The Meguroco go to confront Ash but as they do the piece of rock that the herded Pokémon where on becomes surrounded by boiling hot water. Under the heat the rock they are standing on begins to crumble. Ash attempts to rescue the helpless Pokémon but can not reach them. Then one Meguroco bites some rock and places its body in a vertical position, and allows another Meguroco to climb upon it and bite its tail. This process is repeated with many Meguroco. The Meguroco then swing themselves down to form a bridge for the stranded Pokémon to climb over to safety. All of the Pokémon are too scared to cross the bridge though so Ash runs over the bridge to give them a pep talk with Pikachu acting as his translator. Just before all of the Pokémon get across the rock underneath were the end Meguroco was standing falls away. Ash then has to grab the end Meguroco to stop it from falling into the water. Suddenly another large geyser goes off and threatens to fall on top of ash. Mijumaru uses Water Gun to deflect the falling water. Then Mijumaru begins to fall helplessly towards the boiling water. Ash reaches inside his pockets and draws Mijumaru's Pokéball. He saves Mijumaru from the fall by making it return to its ball. Mijumaru officially joins Ash's party. Distracted by his heroics Ash loses grip on the Meguroco that he was holding, but before it was too late Iris grabs Ash's wrist and saves him. The Meguroco bridge then retuned to its vertical state and collapses. For a reward our episodes heroes were treated to a free treatment at Dan and Father's spa hotel.
