Growl (Japanese: なきごえ Cry) is a non-damaging Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation I.
Effect
Growl decreases the opponent's Attack by 1 level.
Growl will do nothing if the opponent's attack has reached a level of -6 or a value of 1, and will fail if the opponent has a Substitute or is under the effect of Mist. The effect of Growl is ignored by critical hits.
In Generation III and onwards, Growl also will not affect the Pokémon with Soundproof, Hyper Cutter, Clear Body, or White Smoke.

Trivia
- Although sound-based moves are not introduced further, Growl is listed in move index number near with another Generation I sound-based moves; Roar, Sing, Supersonic, and SonicBoom.
- In Generation I, all Pokémon that learned Growl by leveling up learned it at a level above 10, if they didn't start with the move. From Generation II and onwards, however, Eevee is the only Pokémon to learn Growl by leveling up that learns it past level 10.
- Ironically, in Generation I, Eevee had Growl as a starting move, albeit in Pokémon Yellow only.
