''Galvantula'' is a portmanteau of the words ''{{wp|galvanization}}'' and ''tarantula''. ''Dentula'' is likely a combination of 電気 ''denki'', electricity, or 電柱 ''denchū'', lightpole, and タランチュラ ''taranchura'', tarantula. May also tie in with ''chū'', an alternate reading of 虫 ''mushi'', meaning bug.
