Cheren (Japanese: チェレン Cheren) is the sixteenth main character of the manga series Pokémon Adventures and one of the male main characters for the Black & White arc.
Character
Cheren is a newly starting out Pokémon Trainer along with his two friends, Black and Bianca. He and Bianca are well acquainted with Professor Juniper and were the ones who recommended him to be the third Unova Pokédex holder despite her having never met the boy before.
Cheren has known Black since childhood and has memorized all of his various quirks to the point where he knows just when and how to defend against them.
History
Cheren, along with Bianca, first appear in front of Professor Juniper's Lab where they witness the aftermath of the fight between the Professor's Snivy, Tepig, and Oshawott. Here, it is revealed that he was the one who recommended Black to be a Pokédex holder despite her not knowing Black that well. While Professor Juniper shows her anger over the fight between the starters, Bianca gives him the Snivy, stating that it resembled him, and takes Oshawott for herself.
They all chase after the missing Tepig and find Black trying to rescue it from a tree. When Black is attacked by an unknown Pokémon, Cheren explains to the Professor about Black's abilities with his Musha and they witness him defeat the Pokémon, a Sewaddle, and fly off. They are all shocked to find out that Black had accidentally dropped their Pokédexes in the water, causing them to no longer work. Later, Cheren and Bianca have a brief sparring match with their new Pokémon which ends with Bianca getting hit by her Oshawott and attacking Cheren in anger. Cheren explains his and Bianca's history with Black; he explains about how they all decided to become Trainers when they were younger.
Sometime later, after some travelling, Cheren and Bianca reach Striaton City where they arrive at the Striaton Gym. There, they found Black and White having tea inside of the Gym's restaurant. Cheren yelled at Black for leaving him and Bianca behind when they had promised to start their journey together. He yells at him for forgetting their promise to open Professor Juniper's gift to them, for causing a mess in Professor Juniper's house, and for breaking their Pokédexes.
Cheren's anger almost causes one of the Gym Leaders, Chili, to disqualify Black from challenging the Gym before changing his mind and giving them another option: to fight all three of them at the same time. The three Trainers accept and go through the Gym, reach the Gym Leaders, Chili, Cress, and Cilan and begin battling them. Despite the power the Gym Leaders possess, they manage to beat Chili's Pansear, allowing them to win with 3-2 when the time limit expires. Cheren, along with Bianca and Black, each receive their own Trio Badge as a reward for defeating the Gym. Afterwards, they are introduced to White and are given Xtransceivers from her; the two groups then go their separate ways.

Snivy was first seen with Professor Juniper where it got into a fight with the Professor's Tepig after it got berry juice sprayed over it before being violently stopped by her Oshawott. Later, it was seen being sent to Professor Juniper's lab where it got into another fight with Tepig only to be stopped by Oshawott again, this time causing a huge mess in front of the Professor's lab. Later, Bianca picked up Snivy and gave it to Cheren, stating that Snivy resembled him.
Trivia
- He and Bianca break the pattern that the games set, as in, instead of him having the starter that would be stronger to the player character (in this case, Black), he instead has the starter that is weaker to his.
