Scolipede (Japanese: ペンドラー Pendror) is a dual-type Bug/Poison Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

It evolves from Whirlipede starting at level 30. It is the final form of Venipede.

Biology

Physiology

Scolipede is a centipede-like Pokémon, with bright magenta coloration interspersed with purple rings spaced evenly along its segmented upper body. Its horns, extending from its head in a similar way to antennae, are long and slightly twisted. Purple banding decorates its horns, as well as its similarly-shaped dual tails. It has four pairs of purple-tipped forelegs, capable of injecting poison. Its legs further down its body are longer, with curved black patterns and black tipping on the extremities of the limb.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

The claws on its neck can inject powerful poison that could paralyze or kill any Pokémon who touch it.

Behavior

Scolipede are very aggressive, and will chase down its enemies with its horns. It gives no mercy to its opponent until it strikes the final blow.

Habitat

They live in forests.

Major appearances

A wild Scolipede appeared in The Bloom Is on Axew!. Iris's Axew fell out of a tree and got caught in Scolipede's antennae. This startled Scolipede and caused it to go on a rampage, until Iris's Excadrill decided to defeat it with its Drill Run attack.

Minor appearances

Another wild Scolipede appeared in BW024, attacking Ash, Cilan, and Bianca after Bianca accidentally enrages it by having her Pignite use Flamethrower on Scolipede when she thought it was the wild Emolga she was after. The three trainers soon managed to escape from the angry Megapede Pokémon.

Ibushi used a Scolipede in BW039 for the Don Battle. However, they lost.

Trivia

Origin

Scolipede's species shows that it was inspired by the centipede, most likely the Scolopendra gigantea. It could be based on Arthropleura, a prehistoric relative of centipedes that grew to 2 and a half metres. Scolipede also has a little in common with millipedes, and may also draw inspiration from a red Archispirostreptus gigas, a species of millipede often kept as a pet.

Name origin

Both Scolipede and Pendror are taken from Scolopendra, a genus of centipedes. Scolipede is also from centipede or millipede.

In other languages

Language Name Name Origin
German Cerapendra Possibly from keras and Scolopendra.
French Brutapode From brute and arthropod.
Korean 펜드라 Pendeura
Chinese 蜈蚣王 Wú Gōng Wáng Literally "Centipede king".
