Afterwards you can travel along battling trainers and picking up items. Right here is where you first encounter a wild Abra. Since they have a 5% of holding a TwistedSpoon which is a hold item that can enhance the power of any Template:Type2 moves your Pokémon may have. However, it is recommended that you can back later with a Pokémon that knows Thief, Covet, or Trick to collect this item in order to make it easier to get.

Oreburgh Gate

A hiker greets you at the entrance of Oreburgh Gate. He gives you HM06 (Rock Smash). Then, proceed right and you have the option to battle a Camper and Picnicker, respectively. You also have the option of catching a Psyduck and then raising it to learn Water Gun to help with the first gym match.

Getting through Oreburgh Gate, you'll arrive in Oreburgh City.

Oreburgh City

From the gym, walk right until you reach the Pokémon Center, at which point you should begin walking downwards until you reach the entrance to Oreburgh Mine. You also have the option of heading through the north exit to Route 207 to find some new wild Pokémon.

Route 207 (Part 1)

If you need a Machop for the upcoming Gym Battle you can travel here to Route 207 and find one as well as a Ponyta which is the first wild Template:Type2 in the game you can use, especially if you didn't start out with Chimchar and will also be helpful with the second gym match. Beside that you won't be able to travel far on this route until much later in the game.

Oreburgh Mine

After walking down the steps leading to the inside of the mine, you will enter a rectangular room. Upon reaching the large block of coal in the center of the room, turn right, and then walk downwards until you reach the end of the wall, at which point you should see Roark a few steps to your left. Go up to him and press the A button, and Roark will show you how to use Rock Smash. He then tells you that he will be back at the gym, ready to challenge you. Exit the mine and head to the gym.

Oreburgh Gym

After retrieving Roark from the mine, you may enter the gym and battle the two trainers or could take the first set of stairs, go across the bridge and walk down the second set of stairs to avoid battling. Then, you may challenge Gym Leader Roark. After defeating him, Roark will give you the Coal Badge, TM76 (Stealth Rock), and the badge will give you the ability to use Rock Smash outside of battle.
