Roselia is a combination of ''{{wp|rose}}'' and ''{{wp|azalea}}'' or ''{{wp|buddleia}}''. It also came from Celia, a feminine name which is a Latin for "heavenly".
Roselia is a small Pokémon with a light green body. Roselia has a leaf skirt and holds a rose on each of its hands, a red one in its right and a blue one in its left. Roselia has leaves extending from its shoulders like epaulettes, and a pointed streak of yellow extends from its neck down the forefront of its leaf skirt. Visible from the back is a small stretch of yellow coloration around its neck much like a collar. Roselia also has three thorns on top of its head.
Gender differences
A male Roselia has a shorter skirt than a female.
Special abilities
Roselia normally fire sharp thorns (either Poison Sting, Toxic Spikes or Pin Missile, but the latter of the three rarely occurs) as a first offense, usually at wild Pokémon who try to steal its flowers. Roselia are also capable of launching some Powder-based moves to either inflict status problems on its foes (Sleep Powder, Stun Spore, or Sweet Scent) or to heal the status problems of itself and its allies (Aromatherapy). Roselia are also capable of knowing Petal Dance. Like most Grass-type Pokémon, Roselia can take in sunlight and focus it into a SolarBeam.
Behavior
Roselia seem to be peaceful Pokémon, but can attack fiercely with powerful poisonous attacks upon sensing danger.
Wally caught a Roselia on Route 117, which still remains on his team to this day. Being fairly small, it typically rests on Wally's shoulder and heals Pokémon with its Aromatherapy.
Roselia shoots sharp thorns as projectiles at any opponent that tries to steal the flowers on its arms. The aroma of this Pokémon brings serenity to living things.
On extremely rare occasions, a Roselia is said to appear with its flowers in unusual colors. The thorns on this Pokémon's head contain a vicious poison.
A Roselia that drinks nutritionally rich springwater blooms with lovely flowers. The fragrance of its flowers has the effect of making its foes careless.

F R ? J F ? 6 6 8 5 ? W
Objective: Rescue Roselia on floor 2 of Tiny Woods.
Roselia is the first (and so far, the only) Pokémon to receive both a pre-evolution and an evolution in the same generation. Other Pokémon that received both, though not in the same generation, are Chansey, Electabuzz and Magmar. Roselia is the only one of those Pokémon that isn't from Generation I.
