Some Bulbapedia members have formed a project to better organize efforts to write and improve articles about moves and abilities. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page or the Bulbapedia forum and see the To-do list.

Project Moves and Abilities

Scope and aims

Project Moves and Abilities covers two kinds of articles which are closely related.

 • Pokémon moves (also known as "techniques" or "skills")
 • Pokémon abilities from the third generation onwards

Due to the overwhelming amount of moves invented for non-game canon, the Project only encompasses moves that exist in the Game Boy and Nintendo DS games. Moves that exist only in the Trading Card Game, the anime, or in any other offshoots of the main franchise are not covered by this Project. They are instead run by Project TCG and Project Anime.

Structure for move articles

Examples: Volt Tackle, Aerial Ace

Effect
A description of the move's effect. If the move's effect varies between generations, differences should be specified in subsections titled with the generation (for instance, ===Generation III===). If other moves have similar or identical effects, try to keep the wording consistent between all of them. For moves that have an effect outside of battle, please add: ===In battle=== and ===Out of battle===. If applicable, place them under the correct Generation.

Learnset
Generation #
By leveling up
A table containing the Pokémon that can learn the move via leveling up.

By TM##==== or ====By HM##
By breeding
A table containing the Pokémon that can learn the move via breeding.

By tutoring
A table containing the Pokémon that can learn the move via move tutors.

Any other method of learning the move goes below those. For example:

By events
By purification
A table containing the Pokémon that can learn the move via purification.
