Red's Charizard (Japanese: サトシのリザードン Red's Lizardon) was the first Pokémon acquired by Red in the Kanto region. Red obtained Charmander from Professor Oak when he was sent out to fill up the Pokédex.
History
Charmander is a Pokemon originally belonging to the laboratory of Professor Oak, Red gets it by choosing to be appropriate to his name and his burning desire to be a trainer. His first battle is against a wild Pidgey has since Red uses several times to set up your initial team.
Charmander is used in the first Pokémon battle against Green, who due to Red's inexperience and the Squirtle's advantage of type is easily defeated.
In Gym Battle against Brock, Charmander is the choice initial of Red but when learning about the advantage that Brock's Geodude has on Fire-type Pokémon is soon taken back after the battle but back when Brock manages to defeat Red's team in battle against his Onix, however thanks to a strategy that Red uses and he can learn how to treat their Pokemon like partners, Red and Charmander are victorious.
Charmander evolves into Charmeleon some time after the Gym Battle against Misty.
Red used Charmeleon in Lavender Town to face the ghost who terrorized the inhabitants of the city, which was later to be revealed that it was the spirit of a Cubone's mother, Marowak, who was killed by members of Team Rocket.
Red used Charmeleon again in his battle against Erika, which guaranteed his fourth Badge. After several battles, Charmeleon evolved into a Charizard.
Red used Charizard in his first battle against Giovanni, where despite the fire-type Pokémon trying its best, it was easily subdued by Giovanni's Nidoqueen.
Charizard is used again in the final battle against Giovanni, where he faces the Giovanni's Rhydon. After a hard battle, Charizard manages to win out and Giovanni decides to change their attitudes inspired by his memories of when he had a Charmander as a child and free from ambition.
In the Pokémon League, Charizard is the final choice of Red against Blastoise from his rival and friend, Green. The two Pokemon are waging a tough battle, but Charizard leaves victorious with a combination of Fire Blast and Fire Spin, knocking out Blastoise. Thanks to this victory, Red becomes the new Champion of the League.
From then on, Red leaves on a journey to capture other Pokémon in the Kanto region. Charizard is used in a battle against a Moltres, which ends up being captured by Red.
In the battle against Mewtwo, Psychic Pokémon after defeating the whole team Red, it sends Charizard as a last hope for victory. Initially, Charizard is no match for the power of Mewtwo and is defeated, being thrown into a lake next to his trainer. With the use of a MegaStone, given by Red Mr.Fuji and its great bond with Red he is able to evolve to its most powerful level. With the new level of power, Charizard becomes able to face equal to the opponent, and so after a series of powerful moves can overcome Mewtwo, thus allowing Red to capture Mewtwo.
Personality and characteristics
As mentioned by many Trainers, Red and Charizard have a great bond between them. Charizard is also very loyal to Red, even when it was a Charmander and its trainer was rather inexperienced. In terms of power, it is one of Red's most strongest Pokémon, even able to beat powerful opponents even on huge disadvantage.
Thanks to this union and its power, Charizard can evolve to one higher level of power, something rarely seen in the Kanto region.

Charizard is the Pokémon Trainer's powerhouse, boasting heavy-hitting moves, above-average dash speed (slightly faster than Pikachu), and long-range attacks. Charizard's drawbacks include large weight, subpar aerial game, and slow walking speed. Its varied arsenal of attacks includes Rock Smash, a powerful frontal attack, and Fly, a recovery move that sends Charizard skyward and allows it to glide. It can also use Flamethrower to attack from a short distance, but its power decreases over time. It uses Fire Blast in the Pokémon Trainer's Final Smash, Triple Finish.
In the Subspace Emissary, Charizard is found shortly after Ivysaur, completing the Trainer's team.
