Origin
Luxray is based on an adult male lion.
Name origin
Luxray is derived from lux, a measure of brightness, and x-ray, refering to its x-ray eyes. Its Japanese name is a combination of Roentgen, the physcisist who discovered X-rays, and トラー torā, Japanese for "tiger." Its German name, Luxtra, comes from lux and Strahl.
