Ash's Goomy (Japanese: サトシのヌメラ Satoshi's Numera) is the fourth Pokémon Ash caught in the Kalos region.

History

Goomy first appeared in XY055 where it was dropped from the sky by a Swanna onto Ash's head. It looked weak and tired so Ash and his friends took it to a nearby river to heal it. After having water poured onto it by them, Goomy quickly recovered its health. When Dedenne popped out of Bonnie's bag to greet it, it hid behind Ash, as it is weak to Fairy-type Pokémon.

After traveling for a while, Goomy was frightened once more by a disturbed Ariados - whose tree had been attacked by Chespin, wetting itself in fear. Confused, Clemont decided to use one of his inventions to see why Goomy was so terrified of Bug-type Pokémon, revealing that Goomy's homeland was attacked by various Bug-type Pokémon, including Ariados, until Goomy and other inhabitants were rescued by Swanna. After Goomy and Pikachu were captured by Team Rocket, Goomy watched as Pikachu tried to escape; though the cage absorbed Pikachu's Thunderbolt, Pikachu rammed into the side of the cage until he made a hole big enough for them to squeeze out of. Goomy was able to slip through, but Pikachu couldn't for it was too tight for him. Seeing Pikachu's predicament, Goomy slipped back into the cage and used its slimy body to help Pikachu squeeze through.

While escaping Team Rocket, Goomy managed to slow James down with Rain Dance, giving Ash and his friends enough time to battle the trio. However, when Fletchinder and Pikachu tried to fend off Team Rocket they ended up getting confused by Inkay's Psybeam, making them attack each other. As Ash grabbed onto both of his Pokémon to try and calm them Goomy began to admire the lengths Ash would go to protect his Pokémon, motivating it to fight. After intercepting Pumpkaboo and Inkay's combined Dark Pulse and Psybeam, it used Bide to absorb the hits and then defeat Team Rocket. Later, Goomy indicated to Pikachu that it wanted to go with Ash, allowing Ash to capture it in a Poké Ball.

Personality and characteristics

Ash and his Goomy

Goomy is a very friendly Pokémon, as it likes to show its affection to others by nibbling on their ears. It has also proven to be a capable fighter, but was initially scared until it decided to help Ash. Goomy is easily frightened and is afraid of Fairy-type Pokémon such as Dedenne since Dragon-types are weak against Fairy-types. It's also afraid of Bug-type Pokémon such as Ariados as they destroyed Goomy's original home. When depressed or insulted, Goomy tends to use Rain Dance on the offender, as seen when it used the move on Serena.

As shown in XY055, Goomy has a slimy body, which can help reflect attacks without it taking damage or it can put slime on others, making them slimy, as shown when it used this on Pikachu to help him escape from Team Rocket's cage. It also dries out easily causing it to become weak or tired, but can stop this by absorbing water.
