Vast Poni Canyon (Japanese: ポニの大峡谷 Great Canyon of Poni) is a location on Poni Island in Alola. It connects to the Ancient Poni Path in the south and to the Altar of the Sunne^S/Altar of the Moone^M. It is where the player battles Hapu in her grand trial, and the location of a natural trial site. The player also meets Mina, the sole captain of Poni Island, here.

The area produces a special magnetic field that allows Magneton, Nosepass, and Charjabug to evolve when leveled up here.

Trial

As the trial is abandoned and not attended by a captain, the trial itself is straightforward. The player proceeds forward in the Totem's Den, being attacked by a wild Jangmo-o and a wild Hakamo-o as they proceed to a pedestal. Before they can retrieve the Dragonium Z from the pedestal, they are attacked by the trial's Totem Pokémon, a Kommo-o.
