The Charjabug Race course

The Charjabug Race (Japanese: デンヂムシレース Dendimushi Race) is an anime-exclusive competition that is held annually on Melemele Island. It was featured in SM041. The competition is a race that involves Trainers and a Charjabug, which is placed inside a Charjabug-powered Charjabug Car, racing along race tracks and some different terrains inside a stadium. The race is hosted by Ana. There appear to be multiple cups in which Trainers can compete, including the (Japanese: コケコカップ Kokeko Cup). Ash, Sophocles and Kiawe participated in the 25th annual edition of this cup.

The prizes of the Charjabug Race

Although there appear to be cups focusing on just one Trainer and their Charjabug in the race, the Kokeko Cup has participants enter in teams of three. Each member of the team fulfills another role, with the roles being:

  • The director, who gives instructions to their teammates from a tower by using ear pieces.
  • The mechanic, who performs maintenance on the Charjabug Car and switches the tires.
  • The support runner, who runs alongside the Charjabug and helps it overcome obstacles.

The race track spans the following types of terrain, in order:

  • Normal track
  • Canyon terrain
  • Normal track
  • Desert terrain
  • Normal track
  • Cityscape

In front of each area are pits, where the tires on the Charjabug Car can be changed (like pit stops like in real-world motorsports) and the Charjabug can rest and eat or drink something. Changing tires outside of these pits is not allowed.

Obstacles during the course include Boldore, Sandygast, and Castform. These Pokémon use obstructing moves to make it harder for the participants and their Charjabug.

The support runner of the team is not allowed to help the Charjabug by pushing the car, as doing so will result in disqualification. Using moves like String Shot on the Charjabug Car's tires to overcome slippery terrain is allowed.

The winner receives a year's supply of Charjabug-themed products. These include Charjabug Car tires, notebooks and pillows.
