Zero Isle North (Japanese: ゼロのしま ほくぶ Zero Isle North) is a dungeon in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. It is unlocked after graduation and is part of the Zero Isle dungeons discovered by Team AWD.

Gameplay

Zero Isle North is part of the challenging Zero Isle dungeons. Upon entering, the player is barred from gaining any further experience points and cannot recruit any Pokémon. The enemy Pokémon start at level 50 but rapidly gain levels on lower floors, reaching level 90 by floor 50. Not only that, but the enemy get increasing amount of IQ points, specifically:

  • At floors 1 through 13: 150 (★1.5)
  • At floors 14 through 19: 200 (★2)
  • At floors 20 through 29: 330 (★3.5)
  • At floors 30 through 49: 331. This does not affect any Pokémon.
  • At floors 50 through 69: 600 (★6), granting them access to many advantageous skills mostly reserved to bosses, such as Intimidator, Extra Striker or Sure-Hit Attacker
  • At last five floors: 850 (★8.5), granting them access to powerful skills like Pierce Hurler or Quick Striker.

The amount of starting enemies depends on the floor:

  • 4-7 on floors 14, 26, 29, 32, 40, 41, 46, 56 and 64
  • 3-6 on other floors

There's 2-5 items on ground on floors 1 through 30, and 3-6 on later floors. There's also 2-5 items buried in the walls, though they're all Poké. However, items spawn sticky 5% of the time, and Reviver Seeds are found only in shops on later floors.

Reflecting the strength of the enemy Pokémon, the jobs in this dungeon past first floor are ranked anywhere from ★2 to ★9, with all missions at floors 60 through 74 being ★9 regardless of the mission type, the only dungeon in Explorers of Time and Darkness where this is the case. Past floor 50, the dungeon can spawn higher amounts of Poké than anywhere else in Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky. Additionally, the turn limit before the player is thrown out of the dungeon is 2000 turns, twice the limit present in most other dungeons. The IQ Booster will activate on every floor.

Further adding to the difficulty of the dungeon is that all floors are large-sized, with the following amount of rooms:

  • 3-8 on floors 1, 9, 12, 22 through 25, 34 through 37, 41 through 43, 46, and 49 through 52
  • 3-9 on floors 2, 5, 10, 11, 13, 26 through 29, 36 and 47
  • 3-10 on floors 3, 6, 14, 17 through 21, 30, 31, 33, 39, 45, 48, 53 through 55, 61 through 63, 65 through 67, 73 and 74
  • 3-11 on floors 7 and 15
  • 3-12 on floors 4, 8, 16, 6, and 72
  • 3-13 on floors 56 and 68
  • 3-14 on floors 32, 40, 44 and 64

Floors 3, 5, 7, 11, 12, 15, 19, 22, 24, 26, 30, 31, 34, 38, 41, 43, 45, 49, 50, 53, 57, 62, 64, 66, 70, 71 and 74 have water on them. Not only that, but every fifth floor (except 75F), has 1% for a room each to be filled with water, on top of water that might already be present on the floor, and will also have random weather (with the random weather also occurring on 74F). On top of that, starting on floor 14 the dungeon is covered by light darkness, which becomes heavy darkness on floor 61. Last but not least, most traps found here directly affect a Pokémon's ability to fight enemies, such as by affecting their items or moves, or temporarily lowering their stats.

As it is a Zero Isle dungeon, its difficulty is paired with many rare items such as Life Seed or Zinc spawning directly on the ground as well as in Kecleon Shops. Additionally, many items that in Time and Darkness were hard to find in one version, such as the other half of the type Gummis, can be found here regardless of version. In Explorers of Darkness only, the player can also find TMs lying on the ground.

There are locked chambers requiring Keys on floors:

The chambers on floors 16, 26, 30, 35 and 40 also require ability to walk on water.

At the end of the dungeon, the player can pick up two Wonder Gummis, the ultimate recruitment item that is Golden Mask, as well as the Wonder Chest.

Pokémon encountered

Each time player enters floors 6 through 20 and 41 through 74, only 14 of the following species that can be found on the given floor will be chosen. The unpicked Pokémon's spawn rate will be added to whichever picked Pokémon is next in the National Dex order, going back to the beginning if needed.
