Minimize (Japanese: ちいさくなる Shrink) is a non-damaging Normal-type move introduced in Generation I.
Effect
Generation I
![](https://staging.archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/4/45/MinimizeG12.png)
Minimize raises the user's evasion stat by one stage and replaces the user's sprite with a tiny, generic image. However, the user is not replaced by this tiny image if the battle animations are off, or if the move fails because the user's evasion has already been raised six stages.
If a Pokémon uses Transform on a minimized target, the user copies the target's regular sprite (rather than the tiny sprite). Similarly, if a minimized Pokémon uses Transform, its own tiny sprite is replaced by the target's regular sprite.
If a Pokémon's sprite has disappeared because it used Acid Armor, using Minimize will make it visible again as the tiny generic image.
Generation II
Minimize now causes certain moves to double their damage.
Generation III
Pokémon that have used Minimize no longer have their sprite replaced with a tiny generic image.
Generation IV
Minimize now causes the boosted moves to double their power instead of damage, which results in virtually the same effect.
Generation V
Minimize now raises the user's evasion by two stages, instead of one.
Minimize's move boost is now applied to damage instead of power, which mimics its behavior from Generations II and III.
Generation VI onwards
Minimize's PP changed from 20 to 10.
If a boosted move hits a Pokémon that has used Minimize, it now bypasses accuracy and evasion checks. This effect is reverted when the Pokémon undergoes Dynamax after using Minimize.
If powered up by a Normalium Z into Z-Minimize, all of the user's lowered stats are reset.
Vulnerability to moves
Specific moves will hit with double power (Generation IV) or have their damage doubled (Generations II, III, and V onward) against targets that have used Minimize at least once. Additionally, from Generation VI onward, these moves also bypass accuracy and evasion checks in this case. If a Pokémon undergoes Dynamax after using Minimize, these moves will revert to dealing their usual damage.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series
Minimize raises the user's evasiveness. Evasiveness is raised by one stage in the Rescue Team, Explorers and Adventure Squad series. From Gates to Infinity onward, Minimize raises the user's evasiveness by two stages.
|
Pokkén Tournament
Minimize appears as one of Chandelure's Pokémon moves. Chandelure temporarily shrinks in size, rendering it immune to attacks until it reverts. While shrunken, Chandelure can also move to reposition itself to keep distance from the opponent.

Trivia
- In Generation I games, if the player used Minimize, then looked at the stats of a Pokémon in their party and then exited the menu, the opponent's Pokémon sprite would change to a glitchy version of the Pokémon that was just viewed.
- Minimize is one of three moves that have been used in a completed anime series, but not been seen in the English dub. The other two are Conversion and Ion Deluge.
- Despite Legends: Arceus stating that all Pokémon share the ability to shrink, and this ability can be triggered by a Poké Ball as well, the pool of Pokémon who learn Minimize is small.
