Release information

This card was available as a SWSH Black Star Promo in the Meowth VMAX Special Collection from January 3, 2020. A Jumbo version was also included in the collection. In Japan, it was first available to people who participated in mission 2 of the Pokémon Card Challenge, a two-part event held in and around Tokyo on the weekend of December 14 and 15, 2019. Mission 2 required people to find the secret location of the Pokémon Card Stadium, clues to which were given to participants of the first mission, a Limited format event using the V Starter Sets held at participating Pokémon Card Gym venues in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, and Chiba, as well as at Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo, Pokémon Center Tokyo DX, and Pokémon Center Tokyo Bay.[1][2]

Upon reaching the Pokémon Card Stadium, held at Sunshine City Convention Center in East Ikebukuro, Toshima, Tokyo, participants were required to present the clue received from mission 1 to attendants in order to enter. The battle area was decorated to mimic the stadia in Pokémon Sword and Shield; participants were announced to applause upon their entry. Further Limited format battles using the V Starter Sets were conducted here; competitors submitting their scoresheets, regardless of wins or losses, were given a copy of this card. Other areas of interest within the Pokémon Card Stadium included the full size diorama of the Wild Area used in the Wild Area Search website, banners displaying panoramas from the website complete with native Pokémon, and photo spots with oversized representations of Full Art Hop, Bede, Professor's Research, and Marnie.[3] A screen displaying the win rates of the five V Starter Sets was also present at the venue, used in conjunction with a Twitter campaign to predict the most dominant deck. From December 11 to 15, 2019, people could post their predictions along with the hashtag #ポケモンカードからの挑戦状, Pokémon Card Challenge. Ten winners selected from correct predictions won one Sword or Shield booster box.[4]

The card was available again in Japan as one of two possible prizes competitors could redeem immediately for 10 Play Points at the 2020 Aichi Champion's League, held at the Aichi International Exhibition Center, Tokoname on December 21, 2019.[5] Competitors could also earn this card in the 14 and 20 Play Point prize packages, though could only exchange their accrued points once during the meeting. Eligible events included the official Champion's League 2020 tournament, the 4-League Battle, the 3 on 3 Battle, and the V Deck Battle. 2 Play Points were awarded to Junior League competitors for participating in the official Champion's League 2020 tournament and 6 Play Points were awarded to Senior, Master, and Open League competitors who participated in at least three qualifying round matches. A further 4 Play Points were awarded to Junior League competitors who achieved two consecutive wins at the First Stage during the qualifying round and 8 Play Points to Senior, Master, and Open League competitors who achieved five or more wins in the qualifying round. 8 Play Points were also awarded to Junior League competitors who reached the single-elimination finals. 2 Play Points were awarded for participating in the 4-League Battle, the 3 on 3 Battle, and the V Deck Battle. A further 2 Play Points were awarded per win in either the 4-League Battle or the 3 on 3 Battle.[5]
