A recent trailer of ''[[Giratina and the Sky's Bouquet: Shaymin]]'' implies that a member of the main cast may catch a Swinub, as one is standing next to Dawn's Pokémon. If this is true, it will be the fifth {{cat|Generation II Pokémon}} owned by a member of the main cast during the [[Diamond & Pearl series]], after {{TP|Dawn|Aipom}}, {{TP|Brock|Sudowoodo}}, {{AP|Gligar}}, and {{TP|Jessie|Yanma}} (sixth if one counts {{TP|Jessie|Wobbuffet}}, which, unlike the others, was caught long beforehand).
Living in frigid temperatures, these Pokémon are covered in dense hair to keep them warm. They use their noses to dig through mud and snow, looking for anything edible. Their sense of smell is quite powerful, able to smell food through thick snow.

The only time that Swinub's eyes have been seen open was during the fight between Pryce and Erika in Round 163 of Pokémon Special when Pryce ordered his to dodge Erika's Skiploom's attack.
Origin
Swinub's size/appearance seems to be based off a Peruvian guinea pig, whose mountainous habitat echoes that of the Ice Path in Johto, and a wild boar piglet.
Name origin
Swinub's name is a combination of swine and nub, referring to its lump-like nose. Its Japanese name may be a combination of 瓜坊 uribō, a wild boar piglet, and ぶう ぶう bū bū, an onomatopoeia for oinking.
