No need for this section. It's already stated that it goes unused in the intro to the page, having another section entirely dedicated to saying it's unused is unnecessary.

Avoids sound-based moves.

Cacophony (Japanese: そうおん Noise) is an unused Ability introduced in Generation III. It exists only in the Generation III games, and was removed in Generation IV.

Based on its description, it appears to have been intended to behave identically to Soundproof by making the Pokémon immune to sound-based moves. The reason for its removal is unknown, given several other Abilities are equivalent in effect to another (such as Air Lock and Cloud Nine).

Effect

In battle

Cacophony has no effect during battle.

Outside of battle

Cacophony has no effect outside of battle.

Pokémon with Cacophony

No Pokémon have Cacophony as an Ability.

Due to its use on the Japanese Exploud card released in Great Encounters, it is possible that this Ability was initially intended to be related to the Whismur family.

Trivia

  • In the List in Japanese versions of Pokémon Box Ruby & Sapphire, Cacophony is displayed as one of the 77 Abilities that Pokémon can be sorted. This is the only way for the Ability's name to be seen legitimately in any game.
