A single patch of tall grass stands on the shoreline, but after that the land gives way to the ocean. To the south lie the ruins of Cinnabar Island.
Viridian City is a small, nature-loving city that is enveloped in green year-round. It is located between 2 to the north, 1 to the south, and 22 to the west.

Cinnabar Island
At some point during the last few years, the volcanic Cinnabar Island erupted. The Pokémon Center has been rebuilt, but the rest of the town remains either buried in rubble or swept into the sea. It is here that you meet Blue, contemplating the power of nature. The former Champion and current Gym Leader refuses to return to his post at the Viridian Gym. In order to persuade him, you must first collect the seven other Kanto Gym Badges. To earn the seventh, you need to track down the Gym Leader of the displaced Cinnabar Gym. With the building destroyed, Blaine was forced to relocate to a cave in the Seafoam Islands to the east.

Viridian Gym
The Viridian Gym is located on a hill on the north side of town. The building is open, but no one is around. According to an elderly man outside the entrance, the Gym did not have a Gym Leader until recently, when Blue from Pallet Town took the role. He is often away, however, so challenging the Viridian Gym will need to wait.

20 is a stretch of ocean that surrounds the Seafoam Islands. After the Cinnabar eruption, Blaine was forced to relocate to a small cave in the upper part of the eastern island.
Trainer House
{| class="expandable" style="margin: auto; background: #; roundy; border: 5px solid #;"
The Trainer House is located in the middle of the city. Built near Indigo Plateau, the ultimate destination for Pokémon Trainers, the Trainer House allows participants to battle in a controlled environment. According to visitors inside the building, only the best Trainers gather here. These Trainers turn out to be real-life people met via the Pokéwalker, and will appear after the accessory is synced with the game. Up to 10 additional Trainers may be encountered this way. Any Pokémon in a Trainer's party above level 50 will have their level reduced to 50. Battles here give no experience or money, but the player will receive 1 BP for each victory. If the player has not used the Pokéwalker, the default opponent is Cal, whose team includes the final forms of each of Professor Elm's Pokémon.

Seafoam Gym
Blaine's quiz machines were destroyed, so there are no puzzles to solve. However, none of his six Gym Trainers will approach when you step into their line of sight. Each one is stationed at a choke-point and will not move until they are defeated. To reach the central area, it is necessary to approach from the western side, as Super Nerd Merle is the only one of the three nearest the Gym Leader that does not block the path upon defeat.

The Gym Leader is a Fire specialist, so you may want to bring a few Burn Heals. All three of his Pokémon are susceptible to Water- and Ground moves, but his Magcargo is especially vulnerable. Though his Pokémon are at respectable levels, they still should not pose much of a threat at this point. Despite this, Water Pokémon should still be careful of Magmar's ThunderPunch. Each of his Pokémon carries a White Herb, which prevents Overheat's Special Attack drop for a single turn.

B1F
When you first descend into the icy caves, you begin in the southeastern part of B1F. Move the boulders aside and collect the Grip Claw in the dead-end path to the north. Walk up onto the nearest platform to reach an Ice Heal and climb down the northernmost ladder.

B2F
Walk down the stairway and slide across the ice patch. Inspect the two frozen stalagmites to the north to find a hidden Pearl. Turn right and battle past Skier Cady, Boarder Shaun, and Boarder Bryce to reach the northeast ladder.

B3F
Head southwest and pick up the Max Revive lying hidden between two stalagmites. Take the ladder down to B4F.

B4F
Go north to find 13, and climb back up the ladder.

B3F
Head northwest, and move the boulder two paces northward. Circle around to the east side of the ice patch. Slide westward to the boulder, then north to reach another ladder.

B4F
Collect the Ultra Ball and climb back upstairs.

B3F
Cross the ice and climb the eastern ladder.

B2F
Pass by Boarder Bryce again, jump the ledge to the south, and climb the ladder.

B1F
Go west and climb down the nearest ladder on the lower level.

B2F
Pick up the Water Stone, jump the ledge, and take the ladder back to B1F.

B1F
Head north onto the upper level and climb down the ladder.

B2F
Circle around past the three Trainers and climb down the northeast ladder.

B3F
Go southwest to find three blocks sitting on an ice patch. Clear two of the three blocks out of the way by bumping into them from the north or south, sending them skidding away. Approach the third block from the east, which creates a stopping point that will allow you to continue westward. Another ice patch lies a short distance to the northwest. Bump the northeast block from the south, push the northwest block from the west, then slide clockwise from the southern edge of the ice to reach the Big Pearl. Climb down the ladder to the southwest.

B4F
Navigate the central part of the floor to reach the islet in the center, and climb the ladder.

B3F
Climb up the next ladder to B2F.

B2F
Cross the bridge and climb down the ladder in the southeast.

B3F
Take the next ladder down to the bottom floor.

B4F
Step into the water and surf westward. The nearest islet is the roost of Articuno, the first of Kanto's three legendary birds. Begin the battle with Fire-, Electric-, and Steel moves to weaken its health quickly, then follow up with Grass and Bug moves to wear it down further. If you fail to catch it, defeat the Pokémon League once more to cause it to reappear.

Afterwards, check the spot where it stood to find a hidden Zinc. Surf westward and climb the northwest ladder.
Pallet Town
B3F
Walk a few paces southward and check the stalagmite to the east for a hidden Rare Candy. Head south then east to reach a Revive, then climb the southwest ladder.

B2F
Pallet Town is a rather small, sleepy town, located between the tall grasses of 1 and the waters of 21. Each of the two northern houses is home to a different former Champion of the Kanto region. Professor Oak's laboratory is located in the south.
Climb up the next ladder to B1F.

B1F
{| class="expandable" align="center" style="background: #BDBDBD; roundy; border: 5px solid #D3D3D3;"
Head north and move the boulder aside to reach the northwest stairway, which leads to the islands' western exit.

Route 20 (east)
After exploring the icy depths of the Seafoam Islands, you re-emerge on 20. Continue eastward to reach the waters of 19.

Route 19
Red's house
The northwest house belongs to Red and Mom, but Red is currently away. He defeated his neighbor and rival, Blue, to earn the Champion title, but gave up that role within the Pokémon League in order to continue his training. His mother is proud of him, but still worries that he is all alone somewhere.

Blue's house
The northeast house belongs to Blue and his sister, Daisy, but Blue is away as well. She reveals that her brother serves as the Viridian City Gym Leader, and that his frequent traveling causes problems for the Gym's challengers.

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
These pages follow the remade Nintendo DS iteration, not Pokémon Gold and Silver. The guide for those games can be found here.

Viridian City

Viridian City

Viridian City is a small, nature-loving city that is enveloped in green year-round. It is located between Route 2 to the north, Route 1 to the south, and Route 22 to the west.

Viridian Gym

The Viridian Gym is located on a hill on the north side of town. The building is open, but no one is around. According to an elderly man outside the entrance, the Gym did not have a Gym Leader until recently, when a young man from Pallet Town took the role. He is often away, however, so challenging the Viridian Gym will need to wait.

Trainer House

Trainer House, 1F
Trainer House, B1F

Route 1

Route 1

Route 1 is a peaceful, country road that leads south from Viridian City to Pallet Town.

Pallet Town

Pallet Town

Pallet Town is a rather small, sleepy town, located between the tall grasses of Route 1 and the waters of Route 21. Each of the two northern houses is home to a different former Champion of the Kanto region. Professor Oak's laboratory is located in the south.

Red's house

The northwest house belongs to Red and his mother, but Red is currently away.

Spa Day with Daisy

Speak to Daisy between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM, and she offers to groom a single Pokémon. Grooming increases a Pokémon's friendship rating, and boosting this value is essential in order to obtain certain Pokémon. Daisy offers her grooming service once per day.

Professor Oak's Lab

The large building to the south is Professor Oak's laboratory. Speak with the professor to have him rate your Pokédex progress. He also asks that you visit again after earning all eight Kanto Gym Badges, as he will have a gift for you.
