Mt. Silver is a hallowed mountain that rises up between Johto and Kanto. These caves are home to powerful Pokémon, so only certain Trainers deemed up to the challenge are permitted to enter.

1F

Main chamber

Use Surf to move westward, then use Waterfall to climb the wall of water. Enter the nearby cave opening.

Southern chamber

The next area is a small, dead-end chamber. Pick up the Expert Belt and return to 1F.

Main chamber

Use Surf again to sail northwestward and step onto dry land. Use Rock Climb to scale the wall and continue northward, then use the move again to climb down the other side. Continue northward to climb the second waterfall and enter the northern chamber. A legendary Pokémon roosts inside.

Northwest chamber

The northwest chamber holds a deep pit, where a fiery bird Pokémon makes its roost. Use Rock Climb to reach the lower level and approach the legendary Pokémon.

VS Moltres

Moltres is the next member of the legendary birds. Begin with Water- and Electric-type attacks to wear its health down quickly, then follow up with Grass, Fire, Bug, Fighting, and Steel moves to chip away at it even further. Consider inflicting status ailments like Sleep and Paralysis to restrict its movements, and be sure to bring along some healing items as well.

After the battle, either travel back to the entrance, or simply use an Escape Rope. Take a moment to visit the Pokémon Center if necessary, then use Rock Climb to scale the nearest wall and step out onto the mountainside.

Lower Mountainside

Go south to reach an Escape Rope, then follow the trail up the mountainside. Pick up TM76 (Stealth Rock) from the south end of the uppermost level, then go north. Move down the first stairway and enter the nearest cave opening.

Main chamber (Northeast)

Move northward to pick up a Full Restore, then exit back to the mountainside.

Lower Mountainside

Continue down the mountainside, then go south and enter the cave opening on the middle level.

Main chamber

Follow the upper-level path westward, then turn north. Climb up the large stairway and enter the cave opening in the north wall.

2F

This chamber houses a large, deep crater that forces travelers to wander in circles to reach the upper levels. Climb up the first two stairways to reach the middle level, then move in a counter-clockwise direction to reach a Max Elixir. Continue up to the second-highest level, then move clockwise to collect a Max Revive. Climb the northwest stairway to the highest level; go south and use Rock Smash to reach a Calcium. Exit through the northern cave opening to reach the mountain's snow-covered heights.

Upper Mountainside

Move east around the corner, then enter the nearest cave opening.

2F

Go south to reach a Protein, then exit back to the mountainside.

Upper Mountainside

Head south and enter the next cave opening.

Move southward and exit through the next cave opening.

Upper Mountainside

Continue southward and turn the corner. Use Rock Climb to collect the Pure Incense, then return to the southeast cave opening.

2F

Go west and take the next exit back to the mountainside.

Upper Mountainside

Use Rock Climb to scale the wall. From this location, there are three more points nearby with steps carved into the cliff. Climb the western path to reach a Dawn Stone, then backtrack and follow the middle path up to enter the cave opening on the highest level.

3F

Follow the tunnel westward and climb the towering cliffside. Step through the exit to reach the icy mountaintop.

Summit

A Mythical Meeting

Cross over the narrow, snow-covered ridge to finally meet Red, former Champion of the Kanto region. He and his Pokémon have been in training here since he gave up his Champion title, and that training has resulted in each of his Pokémon reaching sky-high levels. Even with a type advantage, Red's Pokémon will not go down without a fight.

VS Red

A hailstorm blows in as the battle begins. The falling bits of ice will damage all non-Ice Pokémon each turn, except those with certain Abilities.

Red leads with his first partner, Pikachu. As it has reached an incredible level 88, it is not an opponent to be underestimated. As if it was not dangerous enough on its own, the Light Ball it holds doubles the power of each of its moves. Ground-type Pokémon are best here, as they are immune to Electric moves, and Pikachu takes serious damage from Ground attacks.

At level 80, Lapras is Red's lowest-leveled Pokémon. Due to the hailstorm blowing over the battlefield, the accuracy of its Blizzard move is boosted to 100%. Psychic may cut the target's Special Defense, increase the damage it sustains. Use Fighting-, Rock-, Grass-, and Electric-type attacks to chip away at its high HP. Physical moves are most effective, as they target its weaker physical Defense.

Snorlax has a massive amount of HP. Its high physical Attack lets it inflict a good deal of damage with Crunch, which may lower the target's physical Defense. A stat drop like this can quickly become a nightmare for a target hit by Giga Impact. Snorlax is immune to Ghost-type attacks, and only takes serious damage from Fighting-type moves.

His Venusaur can lull the target to sleep with Sleep Powder, and sap its HP for its own with Giga Drain. Frenzy Plant is a massively powerful move that forces the user to recharge on the next turn. A Grass-type Pokémon, it fares poorly in extreme heat or cold, so use Fire and Ice moves to wear it down.

Though Charizard's physical Attack is lower than its Special Attack, Flare Blitz is still a powerful move that inflicts recoil damage and may burn the target. Like Venusaur's Frenzy Plant, Blast Burn is such a powerful attack that it forces the user to recharge after using it. Charizard takes massive damage from Rock-type attacks, but is also vulnerable to Water- and Electric-type moves.

Blastoise is a more defensive Pokémon than the others, but should still not be taken lightly. Blizzard hits with 100% accuracy, and gives it a way to counterattack against Grass Pokémon. Both Focus Blast and Flash Cannon may cut the target's Special Defense. This lets it deal even more damage with Hydro Cannon, the Water-type version of Frenzy Plant and Blast Burn. Blastoise falters against Grass and Electric attacks, and its lower physical Defense means that physical moves are most effective.

After the battle, Red pauses for a moment in stunned silence. Then, in the blink of an eye, he disappears. He is not gone for good though, as defeating the Elite Four and Champion again will cause him to reappear here. The credits roll for the second time, and you resume your adventure back home in New Bark Town.

Having scaled the mountain and defeated the legendary Trainer, the final remaining task is to complete the Pokédex. There are currently 493 known species, so there is plenty of training left to do!
