Shiftry are probably based on Tengu , who are known for their long noses, cruel tricks, and ability to read minds.
Name origin
Shiftry's name is probably a combination of the words shifty (meaning deceitful), and tree . Its Japanese name is probably a combination of dark and 天狗 tengu , tricky Japanese goblins. Shiftry's German and French names also have tengu incorporated in them.
