Lightningrod (Japanese: ひらいしん Lightning Rod) is an ability introduced in Generation III that forces all Template:Type2 attacks in a Double Battle to strike the Pokémon with this abilty. This is useful because five of the Pokémon with this ability are not affected by Electric-type attacks, and the other two only take half the damage from them. Seven Pokémon have this ability. In a Single Battle, this ability has no noticeable function, aside from electric attacks always hitting the Lightning Rod user. (even although the move usually has no effect it still 'hits')

In the anime
Rhydon: Rhydon redirects a Thunderbolt attack to its horn
- Used by Blaine's Rhydon in Riddle Me This.*
- Used by a Rhydon in Tag! We're it...!. Ash told Pikachu to use Thunderbolt on a Magmar, but the attack was directed straight to Rhydon's horn instead. This prevented Pikachu from using any Template:Type2 moves that battle, since they would all be absorbed by Rhydon, and since Rhydon is a Ground/Rock-type, they have no effect.
