Saur (Japanese: フッシー Fusshi) was the third Pokémon obtained by Red. He recieved it from Professor Oak in the Pokémon Special manga.

History

Saur was given to Red when he accidentally released all of Professor Oak's Pokémon from his lab. After Red caught back all of his Pokémon, Red found Saur in Viridian Gym. Disaster struck as a wild Machoke (likely from Team Rocket's experiments) appeared and attacked them. After the battle, Professor Oak saw the bonding between Saur and Red, as well as the fact that Saur learned how to use SolarBeam, and allowed him to keep it. It evolved into Ivysaur in PS015 at the gates of Celadon City, when it battled an attacking Primeape.
