Porygon2 (Japanese: ポリゴン2 Porygon2) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves from Porygon via trade with Up-Grade, and evolves into Porygon-Z via trade with Dubious Disc.

Biology

Physiology

Porygon2 looks very similar to its pre-evolution, except that all of Porygon2's edges have been rounded out. The pattern on its chest has also been significantly rounded out, and it looks very similar to a Drinking Bird.

Gender differences

Porygon2 is a genderless species.

Special abilities

Porygon2 has the same abilities as its pre-evolution, except that Porygon2 is capable of using Defense Curl instead of Sharpen.

Porygon2, and its evolution family, Porygon, and Porygon-Z, are the only known Pokémon that learn Conversion and Conversion 2.

Behavior

Habitat

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

Being a cybernetic Pokémon, it has no need to eat.

In the anime

Porygon2 is the only Generation II Pokémon to never appear in the anime. Popular opinion is that this is because of the incident involving Template:P2.

In the manga

Green bought a Porygon in Celadon City. In the GSC saga, it evolved into Porygon2.

In the TCG

Main article: Porygon2 (TCG)

Other appearances

Super Smash Bros. Melee

When released from a Poké Ball, Porygon2 will immediately use a powerful Tackle attack that sends opponents flying. The attack cannot be escaped due to the speed in which it happens but Porygon2 is harmless once the attack has finished.

Trophy information

Representing the next step in technological progess, this Virtual Pokémon is a higher-powered version of the man-made Pokémon, Porygon. Compared to the sharp edges of its relative, Porygon2's body is extremely smooth and rounded. In battle, it utilizes a special move called Conversion 2 to alter its type.

Trivia

  • This is the only Pokémon with a numerical figure in its name.
  • This Pokémon has a cry very similar to Girafarig, with the difference being that Porygon2's cry is higher pitched.
  • Porygon2 is one of the two Pokémon that's both smaller and lighter than the Pokémon that it evolves from. The other is Bellossom. This could be a reference to technology getting smaller and lighter as time goes on.
  • It is the only Pokémon that both evolves by trading and needs to be traded to evolve again.
  • Only in Generation II, it is possible for Porygon2 to have both effects of the move Curse. One is by simply using it to the non-Ghost effect of Curse. The other is by using either Conversion or Conversion 2 to change it's type to Ghost and have the Ghost effect of Curse. The other Pokémon that can do this is Porygon.
  • Porygon2 is one of three pokemon with to have a non-alphabetical character in its name. The other two being Porygon-Z and Ho-Oh
  • Of all the Pokémon able to evolve, Porygon2 has the highest base stat average.
  • In Pokémon Platinum Porygon2's color has been made darker, like its Generation II sprites, making it look more like Porygon-Z. However, this was not done to Porygon, since Porygon is not as rounded as its evolutions.

Origin

Like Porygon, it is based on an origami crane made with 3D computer graphics. The head looks like a duck. The change in form by evolution from Porygon to Porygon2 represents the concept of subdivision in 3D computer graphics.

Name origin

Porygon2's name is a mix between polygon and origami. It may also reflect the stereotype that Japanese people pronounce their 'L' sounds as 'R' sounds, Porygon being a mispronunciation of polygon. The 2 on its name is because it is the second in its line of evolution, evolving from Porygon.
