Ash's Sceptile (Japanese: サトシのジュカイン Satoshi's Jukain) was the second Pokémon caught by Ash Ketchum in the Hoenn region. His voice actor in Japanese is 上田祐司 Yūji Ueda and his English voice actor is Bill Rogers. As a Treecko, he was voiced by Dan Green in English. As a Grovyle, he was voiced by Darren Dunstan (Template:4Kids dub) and by Bill Rogers (TPCi dub) in English.
History
Treecko was caught in the episode Tree's a Crowd! after Ash helped him in trying to save his old tree home; this event was followed by a battle with Ash's Pikachu, and Ash caught him as a result of that battle. Ash has used Treecko in a number of battles since its capture including the gym battles against Roxanne and Brawly.
Treecko evolved into Grovyle in the episode Exploud and Clear in the middle of a battle against Guy's Loudred. Ash has used Grovyle in almost every gym battle since its evolution. The most notable being the one against Norman in Balance of Power, where it battled Norman's Slaking. It was also used in the Ever Grande Conference as well as the battle against the Frontier Brain, Template:Greta.
It evolved into Sceptile in Odd Pokémon Out when its love, Nurse Joy's Meganium, was attacked by Team Rocket. Until Cutting The Ties That Bind, Sceptile lost his ability to use attacks due to a broken heart. He regained his ability to use attacks in the above-mentioned episode and was used in Ash's battle against Spenser in the following episode, Ka Boom With A View, where it won Ash the Spirit Symbol after learning a new move, SolarBeam.
Sceptile has since become one of Ash's most powerful Pokémon, even strong enough to hold its own in battle against certain legendary Pokémon. It is exceptionally fast and a good jumper. Sceptile also has a habit of keeping a twig in his mouth. He is also a bit of a loner, and can often be seen sitting alone on the branch of a tree, resting or looking at the sky. Both of these habits were carried over from when Sceptile was a Treecko. Despite this, Sceptile is a competitive battler, almost never turning down a fight. Sceptile was one of the five Pokémon that Ash took with him on his journey to the Battle Frontier.
Ash left Sceptile at Professor Oak's lab before setting off to Sinnoh.

Trivia
- Treecko was Ash's first Pokémon to know only moves not of its type when it was captured. In fact, it would be on Ash's team for 34 episodes before it finally learned a Grass-Type move (that being Bullet Seed).
- Treecko was the first of Ash's Pokémon to evolve in Hoenn.
- Sceptile is Ash's first fully evolved Template:Type2 starter.
- Sceptile is the third of Ash's Pokémon to show interest in a Pokémon of a different species (a Meganium) The first was Totodile who has shown interest in an Azumarill and a Quagsire, and the second was Corphish who has shown interest in a Mawile.
- Ash's Charizard and Ash's Sceptile are the only starter Pokémon that Ash owns that have evolved to its final stage.
- Sceptile is the only one of Ash's Template:Type2 starter Pokémon that can't learn Razor Leaf.
- Sceptile is Ash's second lizard-based Pokémon after Charizard.
- In the Latin-American dub, its Leaf Blade attack is incorrectly called Hojas Navaja, but just by Ash.
- May's Venusaur can be seen as a parallel to Sceptile, as both are the final form Grass-type starter Pokémon from the region that co-starred in Generation III with their owner's home region.
- Sceptile was the second of Ash's Pokémon to learn SolarBeam, the first being Bulbasaur.
- Sceptile is the only one of Ash's Pokémon to be featured on two separate TCG cards, once as a Treecko, and once as a Grovyle.
- Sceptile learned a new Template:Type2 move in each of its evolutions: Bullet Seed as Treecko, Leaf Blade as Grovyle, and SolarBeam as Sceptile.
- In Odd Pokémon Out Ash referred to Sceptile as being male. He said, "...he won, and he lost..." It should be noted, however, that this was said in the dub only.
- Sceptile keeping a twig in his mouth is much like a 番長 banchō, a juvenile gang leader, a character type that was common in manga and anime in the sixties and early seventies.
- It took 59 episodes for Treecko to evolve into a Grovyle. Incidentally, the amount of episodes to evolve again was the reversed digits; 95.
