Name origin
Shedinja's name is a combination of shed, casting off of skin or exoskeleton, and ninja. Its Japanese name is a combination of 抜け殻 nukegara, casting off skin, and 忍者 ninja. Nukenin is also a term describing ninja who have abandoned their clan and lord.
It is based on the shed husk that cicadas leave behind when they finish their metamorphosis into adults.

Type effectiveness
Due to its ability, Shedinja is only effected by the types it is weak to - Dark, Fire, Flying, Ghost and Rock. Due to its HP, any hit from such a move will knock it out. This means that for Shedinja, the five types mentioned above are 1 hit KO's, and the others don't effect it.
In the anime
Shedinja first appeared in AG044.
