Ash's Larvitar (Japanese: サトシのヨーギラス Satoshi's Yogiras) is a Pokémon owned by Ash briefly during the Master Quest season of the anime. Its Japanese voice actress is Miyako Itō and its English voice actress is Tara Jayne. Like Haunter, some say Ash did not "catch" this Pokémon (and therefore did not officially own it), but he at least befriended it. He also did use it to battle once, in Address Unown.
Ash received an egg that he was supposed to deliver to Professor Elm in Johto. It hatched into Larvitar while Ash had it and became very close to Ash and his Pikachu, but Hardened if anybody else approached it.
Its life in the egg was the reason it was traumatized and mistrustful. This was revealed in the episode Address Unown: when Ash and friends are teleported to another dimension, they eventually find an egg with a dark crystal-like thorn in it. They are shown a flashback, hear a child's voice crying that he was scared and calling for his mother, then figured out that it was Larvitar's voice. Poachers had kidnapped it in its egg and fired at its mother several times, leaving a scar on her body. The thorns start to cover everything while Ash calls for Larvitar. Once the three manage to get through to Larvitar, the thorns — and its fear of them — disappear. They then return to the real world.
The poachers are stopped at Mt. Silver in the episode Mother of All Battles! and Larvitar is reunited with its mother Tyranitar.

Trivia
Trivia
- Despite not officialy being his, Larvitar appeared in the Spurt! opening, along with its mother.
- Despite its weight (158.7 lbs, or 71.98 Kg according to the Pokédex), it was seen being carried by Ash on his bag. This is a possible example of anime physics.
- Throughout its duration on the show, Larvitar had continually used Harden whenever it was scared, the only problem being that Larvitar can't learn Harden in the games.
- Out of all of the on-screen hatchings, Larvitar took the shortest amount of time after it was obtained by Ash.
- Larvitar was the only Template:Type2 that Ash owned, despite the fact that he did not actually capture it. Since he was entrusted with its egg, hatched it, cared for it, and used it to battle, it is widely considered to have belonged to him until it was released.
