Origin
Its physical traits are similar to foxes. It also bears a resemblance to a jackal, and may be based off of Anubis, the Egyptian god of the underworld.
Name origin
Umbreon's name is derived from umbra, Latin for shadow and ghost. Eon was Eevee's prototype name, the Pokémon from which Umbreon evolves.
Its Japanese name may simply refer to the color of its coat.
