Stantler (Japanese: オドシシ Odoshishi) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.
Biology
Physiology
Stantler looks much like a brown and cream colored deer. It has a cream colored belly and tail. Stantler's antlers look like huge eyes.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Stantler can distort reality and create illusions with its antlers. Staring into them creates an odd sensation, as if one is being sucked through them, and one may become so dizzy it makes them impossible to stand.
Its strange antlers are very valuable artefacts that Pokémon hunters poach Stantler for. The species was nearly driven to the extinction for this.

In the anime
In The Little Big Horn, Brock helped a baby Stantler reunite with its herd. A little while before that, Stantler created an illusion of a stampeding herd of Stantler in self defense, but it was later seen through by Brock.
In Different Strokes for Different Blokes, Ash got lost in a forest that contained many Stantler with his Turtwig. Some of the Stantler used Hypnosis on the two, giving them various hallucinations. Paul captured one of the Stantler but released it after deciding that it wasn't worthy for his team.
It was also seen as part of Lila's famous "tiger lily smile" in Battling the Generation Gap!.
Many Stantler appeared in Giratina and the Sky Warrior.
Santa Claus has a group of Stantler to pull his sleigh, officially replacing his Ponyta.

Pokémon Special
Stantler first appeared in Template:PSV under the ownership of Professor Oak, who used it often for transport during its appearances.

Trivia
- In the older Sugimori artwork of Stantler, it is depicted with a white tail. However, only its third generation and Crystal sprites have it with a white tail.
- The newer artwork, however, it has a brown tail.
- Stantler's Template:Shiny2 form has a red nose, which some compare to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
Origin
It appears to be based on a reindeer, since both the males and females have antlers.
Name origin
Stantler's name may be combination of stag and antler. Its Japanese name probably comes from 鹿威し shishiodoshi, which is a Japanese device traditionally used to scare deer and birds away from gardens.
