Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky (Japanese: ポケモン不思議のダンジョン 空の探検隊 Pokémon Fushigi no Dungeon Sora no Tankentai) is a game developed by Chunsoft, and a sister game to Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness. The game was first announced in CoroCoro, which released the first details in January 2009. It was officially released in Japan on April 18, 2009 and is set to be released in North America on October 12th, 2009.
New features
- Players can now play as five new starter Pokémon: Phanpy, Vulpix, Riolu, Shinx, and Eevee. Moreover, every starter Pokémon from the previous games, excluding Munchlax and Meowth, can now be a partner.
- Players can now play the music used in the game with the Sky Jukebox.
- There is a new place called Spinda's Cafe where the following can be found:
- Spinda's Drink Stand grants access to the Unexplored Land, and it also allows players to make their own food.
- Explore Recycle & Big Treasure allows players to exchange excess items for other items. The more items exchanged, the better the items available will be. Players may also get lottery tickets to obtain items.
- The player's team recruits can now be found in Spinda's Cafe
- There is a new location called the Secret Bazaar which is found randomly in dungeons. It is run by a Kirlia. The bazaar has several stalls found inside.
- Mime Jr.'s stall restores the player's health and also feeds them.
- Swalot's give players items called Luck Pockets. They may hold useful items inside them.
- Lickilicky's will help players clean items in their inventory.
- Shedinja's gives players a chance to escape the dungeon sooner.
- Players can find a statue of Arceus in a new dungeon called Destiny's Tower. The story here involves a new item called the Time-Space Orb.
- Players only lose half of their money when defeated in a dungeon, instead of all of it.
- Using DS Download Play, the player can send their friends a demo of the game.
Special episodes
During the course of the game, players can engage in various scenarios that expand upon the story of some of the different characters.
- Bidoof's Wish: The first episode features the past of the Bidoof in the Wigglytuff Guild just after it entered the guild. It goes to the Star Cave to have its wish granted by a Jirachi.
- Genius Igglybuff: The second episode features Wigglytuff as an Igglybuff. It explores his past and explains how he became an explorer.
- Today's Scream: The third episode features the Sunflora in the guild. It was given a mission to seek out a Haunter but it was apparently unprepared for what it as about to face.
- Charm's Arrival: The fourth episode featured Team Charm and their past. Team AWD can also be found here.
- Into the Dark future: The fifth episode is set in the dark future. Grovyle and Dusknoir work together when Primal Dialga tries to get rid of them.
- The sixth mission features Shaymin. After completing the game and heading to Spinda's Cafe, players will be taken to Shaymin's Village where they will meet Team Frontier, a team made of a Breloom, Machoke and Mawile and encounter Team Razor Wind. A Shaymin will take the player's team to the Sky's Summit where they will find the Sky's Present. The dungeon works similarly to Mt. Battle from Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness. Every 10 floors are separated by base camps and can be revisited at any time. After reaching the top on the first visit players will battle some Grimer and Muk. On the second visit, Shaymin can be recruited.
