Introduced in Generation VII Pocket Generation VII Z-Crystals

The Icium Z (Japanese: コオリＺ Ice Z) is a type of Z-Crystal introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon. It is the type-specific Z-Crystal associated with the Ice type and allows Pokémon to upgrade their Ice-type moves to Z-Moves.

In battle

Allows the holder to upgrade its Ice-type damaging moves to the Z-Move Subzero Slammer or upgrade its Ice-type status moves into Z-Moves.

Unaffected by item negating effects (such as Embargo and Klutz). Item manipulating effects (such as Trick and Fling) cannot remove a Z-Crystal from a Pokémon.

Multitype changes an Arceus holding this item to its Ice-type form. Rayquaza cannot Mega Evolve if it holds a Z-Crystal.

Outside of battle

A held Icium Z is automatically removed if the Pokémon is traded between players.

In the anime

An Icium Z was first seen in SM080, where it was given to Lillie by an Alolan Sandslash after she had helped driving off a wild Tyranitar that had tried to take over the cave inhabited by Sandslash and a group of Alolan Sandshrew.

Z-Crystal replicas in the anime

A full set of replicas of the type-specific Z-Crystals, including the Icium Z, appeared in A Team-on-Team Tussle!, where they were shown to Ash and his classmates by Professor Kukui.
