In the anime

Poni Breaker Coast first appeared in SM105, where Ash came across Hapu and her Mudsdale. Mudsdale had become aggravated due to a Corsola branch piercing one of its hooves, with Hapu trying to calm it down. Ash commanded Pikachu to use Iron Tail in order to remove the branch and calm Mudsdale down. Ash then noticed Hapu's Z-Ring and asked her again for another battle, to which she refused.
