Winstrate family
The Winstrate family (Japanese: カチヌキファミリー Kachinuki family) are a family of five who are obsessed with Pokémon battles and battling. The family consists of father Victor, mother Victoria, daughter Vivi, son Vito, and grandmother Vicky. The Winstrates live in a house on Route 111, north of Mauville City. Vito is not at home, however, as he has left to challenge the Pokémon League.
In the games
WinstrateRSE/The Winstrates'ORAS (Japanese: カチヌキさんち Kachinuki Family) is a type of Pokémon Trainer that debuted in the Generation III games. It refers to members of the Winstrate family, who are found in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire. Unlike most Trainer classes, there is no determined sprite, and each of the Winstrates have the sprite of that of a different Trainer class. The Winstrates challenge passing Trainers to a string of successive Pokémon battles. If they can be defeated, they will yield the Macho Brace they use to toughen up their Pokémon.
According to Vivi, Vito was the best Trainer, followed by Grandma Vicky, herself, her mother, and her father. Vito can be battled on the bottom floor of Victory Road in between two waterfalls near the end of the game, while the other members of the Winstrate family can be found at the southern half of Route 111.

Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire
In Candid Camerupt, Ash and his friends became stranded in the heat of the desert, but were saved by the Winstrate family. Victor revealed that two months prior, Vito, the son of the family, had left on his own journey to become a Hoenn League Champion. After giving them a tour of their house and yard, which included a purpose-built battlefield, they decided to challenge them to a four-on-four battle.
First, Brock battled against Victor. Brock's Mudkip was quickly defeated by Victor's Zigzagoon's Thunderbolt, much to the group's surprise. Next, May, who used Beautifly, fought against Victoria and her Roselia. May won the round by using a strategy similar to that of the one she used against Drew's Roselia in the Slateport Pokémon Contest, defeating her opponent with Gust and Silver Wind. In the next round, Max borrowed Ash's Corphish to fight against Vivi and her Marill. Max ordered Corphish to go easy on Marill, but Corphish ignored him and viciously attacked its opponent, causing an instant knockout. This gave Max the win, but it was a hollow victory, as he had a crush on Vivi and because of that loss she no longer showed interest in him.
For the final round, Ash and Pikachu went up against Vicky and Camerupt. Unfortunately, as Pikachu's Iron Tail hit Camerupt in the face, it got angry, and started using Eruption and rampaging around, threatening the Winstrate's crops. Thankfully, Vito who was on his way home to admit that he wished to pursue raising Pokémon instead of becoming a Champion, had been watching. He used his Alakazam's Rain Dance to calm down Camerupt. As the match between Pikachu and Camerupt was interrupted, Vicky granted Ash the victory.
Just then, Team Rocket arrived and attempted to steal Pikachu, but thanks to Vito, the villains were sent blasting off. Vicky was aware her grandson was nearby and declared that the family supported his ambitions, whatever path he wished. Vito was relieved, as he feared informing his family that he had failed their to meet their expectations. Without confronting his family Vito left again, this time on a journey to learn to raise Pokémon. Afterwards, the group also went on their way.
Pokémon Journeys: The Series
Vito appeared again watching Steven Stone and Ash's Masters Tournament battle in JN118.

Trivia
- The way the Winstrate family is challenged is similar to the way the player challenges the Elite Four in the games.
- The German, Italian, and Spanish translations of Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald may not have caught on to Vito's relationship to the Winstrate family, as he is given a name that breaks from the family naming pattern in those translations.
