Talk:Generation VIII
Japan is getting the Sword and Shield games in Winter 2019?
Is this for real? Where's the source for that? GrammarFreak01 (talk) 00:34, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
- It's late 2019 as late 2019 can get (December). Japanese game release are usually referred to by the season.--ForceFire 05:36, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
- Yeah, I just realized that. My bad. GrammarFreak01 (talk) 21:09, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
Request
Request for someone to change the start date to November 15, 2019. I can't do it myself because the page is protected. Awesomelink234 (talk) 17:28, 5 June 2019 (UTC)

National Dex note
Can an admin add that Generation VIII will be the first generation to not allow Pokémon who are not in the regional dex to be transferred to the games? Frozen Fennec 15:14, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
- That seems actually the second time, after Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!. --Daniel Carrero (talk) 00:23, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
- I've been thinking... Technically, Generation I was the actual first time, because obviously no other previous generation existed. --Daniel Carrero (talk) 03:25, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
- That would then also apply to Generation II, but either way I think it would be irrelevant since it feels like splitting hairs at that point. Klop422 (talk) 17:18, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
- You're right. The important thing here is that the Switch games (LGPE and SwSh) broke the tradition of having all the previous Pokémon species available via transfers from other games. The articles about both games already state that in one way or another. --Daniel Carrero (talk) 09:39, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

Header change.
The header of the page contains the "Incomplete" tag, when it should really contain the "Expected Future Event" tag. DasRagnerokGPR (talk) 04:04, 13 October 2019 (UTC)
Trivia
I think it might be fair at this point to recognize the following points:
- Generation VIII is the first generation:
- To not have its main paired releases compatible with the entirety of the Pokémon species and moves existing as of its release.
- To introduce Fossil Pokémon that cannot breed.
- To introduce cross-generational evolutions exclusive to Regional forms.
- At the time of its debut, Generation VIII introduced the least Legendary Pokémon, only introducing three.
- At the time of its debut, Generation VIII introduced the least Mythical Pokémon, introducing none.

- The first point isn't true as Ruby and Sapphire were incompatible with RBGY/GSC, the third point as well since Mime Jr. can evolve into Galarian Mr. Mime. The rest of them sound like they're valid though. --Spriteit (talk) 00:43, 9 December 2019 (UTC)
- I feel like, for that last point, you should just say, "At the time of its debut, Generation VIII introduced no new Mythical Pokémon." Or something along those lines. Your suggestion just feels redundant and too wordy. GrammarFreak01 (talk) 03:31, 9 December 2019 (UTC)
- Just added the suggested material. GrammarFreak01 (talk) 04:38, 9 December 2019 (UTC)

Expansion Pass
Similar to how previous generations have separated sections that specifically include additions from later games in the series, should there be a section that elaborates on what the Expansion Pass adds/plans to add? Brawlersinthezone (talk) 16:31, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
Reboot?
The article says "Like Generation III and Generation V before it, Generation VIII can be considered something of a "reboot" of the franchise." I think this sentence needs some clarification. What characteristic does generation VIII share with Generations III and V that it doesn't share with other generations? - unsigned comment from RandomizedKirbyTree47 (talk • contribs)
- I'm assuming they are referring to the fact that not all Pokémon are available somewhat similar to Generation II. The intro mentions this, but late on so I'm not 100% sure if that was indeed the intent. --HoennMaster 01:07, 11 December 2021 (UTC)
Legends: Arceus Title Screens
I noticed while playing Pokémon legends: Arceus that there are a couple more title screens than just one title screen shown in the page. When you load up the game, the title screen is different depending on what location you were when you last played, also there is one if you load up the game while you are in the red sky part in the story. RE: Trivia
I think comparing Sword and Shield situation, and even BDSP and PLA by consequence, to Ruby/Sapphire is not correct. It's true many Pokémon were not obtainable when RS came out, but they were compatible and totally obtainable via trade (that there was no other game to trade with is a different situation). That said, probably Let's Go were technically the first main games not to introduce every pre-existing Pokémon. However, Gen VIII is the first generation were Pokémon species are completely absent from any mainline game, that is, Pokémon that didn't appear through any means either in SwSh, BDSP or PLA, such as the Kalos starters, Sewaddle line, Meloetta, etc. and I think that should be noted - unsigned comment from Omor (talk • contribs)
