Suggestion?

Perhaps this page should include the text that's inscribed on the back of the plates? Would be nice to have that compiled. -GG Crono 17:58, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Placement of this page.

I wasn't really sure where to put this information, so I just stuck it in a page of it's own for now. There didn't seem to be any clear place to put it, but if one comes up, feel free to merge. I also don't know the location of the Earth Plate - if anyone else knows, adding it would be funky.--Doctor Oak 07:01, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Engravings

Can we really know that's the right order? Besides the Dialga/Palkia/lake trio parts being together, it's pretty nonsensical.--Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 00:47, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Let's put each plate with its description instead... looks better and we don't have to care for the order. hfc2X 21:20, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
I think we should try a sandbox version first, because it looks like I got a different Draco Plate quote than you. I'll check my notes again, but I am 90% certain my Draco Plate talked about "The Original One breathed alone".
Has anyone else gotten the plates with different quotes than was listed in the comments? Maybe the engravings are based on the order you pick them up, and not the plates themselves.KrytenKoro 08:07, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure that the draco plate was the one that said: Three beings were born to bind time and space." But I could be wrong, as i don't have any notes.--100xstupid 21:39, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

I'm sure they go in the order that you find them. 1st you find has the first message, second has the second, etc. The Dark Fiddler - Nos hablamos? 21:39, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
And do they repeat for the second lot of eight? — THE TROM — 01:42, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
For the correct order, we could just wait until the event Arceus is avaliable and use it in Platinum to get the extra book in the Canalave Library. And the quotes seem to not be plate-specific.--Swampert = awesome (bleh) 12:26, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

??? Plate

My friend has a "Crystal Plate" and he was able to make his Arceus into the ???-type Arceus. He got it from his friend's glitched game. YinYang1195 20:51, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Do you have proof? We're talking screenshots or videos here. --Shiningpikablu252 20:53, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Sigh... no "Crystal Plate" or something was found inside the game's coding... too bad. ???-Type Arceus will never appear. Is it so difficult to understand? It was only placed in case of hacking, so the game would not crash. If it will ever appear in game it will be useless, cause it won't have weaknesses nor resistances nor get STAB for attacks. hfc2X 19:45, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I made a mistake. He said "Cursed Plate" and his "friend" that supposedly had it lies a lot. It was probably a lie. Can someone check? YinYang 23:18, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Tell your friend that the sprite of ???-Type Arceus has the same function of the in-battle description (and contest effects) of Struggle... it is inaccessible if you don't hack your game, 'cause struggle cannot be learned by ANY Pokémon. But imagine if a Pokémon with Struggle goes into a contest and if it doesn't have description nor contest-effect it will be cathastrophic LOL xD. Same for ???-Type Arceus: if Arceus type is changed from Normal to ??? and you send it into battle and if there wasn't a sprite... you surely got it ;). hfc2X 03:10, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Regigigas?

How do we know that that's what "defeated giants" means?KrytenKoro 20:45, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, that had me curious too. I don't recall anything in-game that ever mentioned it, and the only way that it could really make any sense is if it was the inscription on the Normal Plate, but seeing as how there isn't a Normal Plate, and the inscriptions aren't specific to the individual plates, that kind of goes out the window. --Dual 05:59, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm new, so I'm not sure how to do this really. If I put this in the wrong place, I'm sorry but I've got Pokemon Diamond Version. I can't remember where, but it's somewhere hard to get to but I found a plate called the "Mysterious Plate" but before I checked the plates on Bulbapedia, thought it was an average type plate. If I ever find it again, I'll try to take a picture somehow from my DS but I swear I'm not joking or lying about this. craigybabyxo, 14:01 (GMT)

I got a better idea... show me the part of the coding where the "Mysterious Plate" is and I'll believe you. hfc2X 18:41, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
While I think the guy posting about a "Mysterious Plate" is just making it up, requiring people to post coding to support claims isn't a good policy. I mean, it's great if they have it, but not all of us are tech-savy enough to pull up that kind of thing. --Dual 18:13, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

Changing a link?

Three beings were born to bind time and space." Does this third one mean Giratina? Because it cannot be the lake trio, as the link claims, because they created the spirit. I think this link should be changed into one that navigates too the "dragon trio" page, although i don't really want to take a side in that true or false row until i see proof. "Two beings of time and space set free from the Original One." This could mean that while Dialga and Palkia created time and space, Giratina helps to hold it together. The distortion world could be glue, oh hang on, what a stupid suggestion--100xstupid 21:34, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

According to Giratina and the Sky Warrior the Reverse World (anime version of the Distortion World) says that one can't survive with out the other... I think. Vespitomb> 19:12, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Stone Plate

Where do you find the Stone Plate in Platinum? My little brother is looking for it, and on here it just says Mt. Coronet (which is a very big place) and it has D/P next to it, meaning Diamond and Pearl, so where do you find it in Platinum? Max King 13:20, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you also get it at Mr. Coronet in Platinum, however I may be wrong, so don't take my word for it. ~~Takoto - サソデイ 13:26, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
It says DP only in the actual Mt Coronet article, thanks for the help though Takoto Max King 23:27, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
The Stone plate is found hidden in the rock in the room above the waterfall (accessed from the first peak area).--Swampert = awesome (bleh) 12:23, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Shards

Is there anything that indicates that the shards referenced in the Plate inscriptions is the same as the Shards items? I know that in the Underground, they look a bit like broken Plates, but I'd chalk that up to the designers simply altering the existing Plate sprites to save the time of making a new sprite from scratch. --Dual 18:22, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

It said that it's Shards became the plates. Turtwig A Contributions Talk 18:24, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
I realize that, but it's not like shards is a very specific term. The word "shard" simply means a piece of a greater whole. In the case of the inscription, it seems to be describing shards of the universe. Seeing as how the Shards items were introduced in GenIII, and that there are only four different types of shards instead of sixteen, it seems unlikely to me that they're the same thing as the shards being referred to by the inscription. --Dual 18:33, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
This article doesn't say that the plates were made of shards though, it just links to it. Turtwig A Contributions Talk 18:38, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
Yes, but by having the word "shards" from the Plate inscriptions link to the Shards article, it implies that Plates are made from Shards. Unless there's some evidence to support that claim, (Something a little more substantial then the Shards' Underground sprite, I'd hope.) the link should be removed. --Dual 16:30, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

S.S. Aqua

I just talked to the captain on my second voyage from Johto (I figured I'd go on the cruise since I had to get Sabrina's number anyway) and he gave me a Flame Plate out of the blue. Anyone else got any other plates, or is it always a Flame Plate? TTEchidna 17:10, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Okay I talked to him again today, he gave me a Splash Plate this time. If next time I get a Zap Plate, he's going in index number order. TTEchidna 16:34, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
The guide I am reading talked about the Captain giving each plate in a random order. I just tried it though on my first voyage (second if you count the initial trip) from Kanto to Johto and he didn't give me any plate. It may start with the second voyage though, so I will try again on Wednesday. –MasterKenobi 02:46, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
Just checked again with the captain on the trip from Vermillion City to Olivine and City and still no plate. I only have 14 badges and have yet to do the Arceus Event so I guess I will see what the exact requirements are. –MasterKenobi 03:38, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
I get random plates from him, and I have all the badges. How many badges do you have, TTE? CuboneKing 03:42, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
I haven't played SS for about a week, since I started HG, so I'll see what I get (or if I get anything) after I beat the E4. R.A. Hunter Blade 12:33, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Flame Plate

Someone needs to put up the exact location of the flame plate in Stark Mountain. I'm not entire sure where exactly it is so, I cannae do it. Smythe 06:31, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Oh wait. I found it. It's off to the west of the largest room on a ledge above TM50. Smythe 06:54, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Judgment always has a Base Power of 120?

There is no normal type plate so....... Unless I'm missing something or STAB is included.. Because if STAB was Included wouldn't the base power be 170/180 and 150 for Normal type? Correct me if I'm wrong. --♪ Jason Tong ♪ 00:14, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

I've reworded it. Judgment never has a base power of 120, always of 100. Neither STAB, nor hold items change the base power of moves, they just change multipliers to something other than one. Although I believe that you can use something like that to work out a sort of crude "effective base power" to compare two moves used by an individual Pokémon. You are right though, the "effective" base power would be 180 or 150. (STAB is a multiplier, not an addition). Werdnae (talk) 00:29, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Trivia

"While the presence of hidden Plates can be determined with the Pokétch application Dowsing Machine, their exact location is difficult to ascertain. The Plate's exact location must be touched on the Dowsing Machine in order for it to be revealed."

I've never had this problem. I always tap the very center of the screen and always get the location of the plates regardless of whether I touch them or not. I think this needs to be removed--Lycos Ex Mortis 00:28, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Are the plates obtainable in Generation V?

I was wondering if the plates are obtainable in Generation V. The issue is that one cannot transfer items from Generation IV games via Poke Transfer, so I was wondering how my Arceus will get a type. PokeHomsar 00:47, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Yes, they are obtainable.Minimiscience 00:53, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Thank you. Can someone update the page for it? PokeHomsar 01:01, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Shards

Should it be mentioned that if the shard are parts of a plate, the current shard colors correspond to the starter Pokémon types available to the player (including Pikachu from Yellow).--Chris Broach (talk) 21:25, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

If anything, it should be on Shard. And never edit your comments after making them. It makes it ten times harder for me to reply. --Abcboy (talk) 21:28, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
it was never officially confirmed that they are parts of plates. It is only fan speculation that they are. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 23:51, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

Boost to Hidden Power and such?

I didn't see this in the article, but does a plates 20% boost apply to a Hidden Power of its type?

Or if a Pokémon has a ability like Pixilate, and it holds the pixie plate...Does it get the 20% boost to example quick attack which is normal, but becomes fairy with a 30% boost thanks to pixilate?

In both cases the moves themselves are normal typing, but become a different type during their execution. Yamitora1 (talk) 06:03, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

pixilate ability

I just rediscovered my question that never got answered. if a Pokémon has a ability like Pixilate, and it holds the pixie plate, Does it get the 20% boost to moves turned from normal to fairy type? Yamitora1 (talk) 09:52, 12 October 2015 (UTC)

On the one hand, Pixilate says "in addition to all other [modifiers]". On the other hand, you can just test it: grab Aerilate or Refrigerate and see how much damage a move does with or without a Plate. Tiddlywinks (talk) 13:08, 12 October 2015 (UTC)

Regarding the sky plate's location in DPPt

Isn't it found in the Pokemon League instead of victory road? Sumwun (talk) 20:30, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

Fixed, thanks for that. -Spriteit (talk) 07:08, 15 November 2015 (UTC)

Regarding the Giants

Is it possible that, by Giants, the engravings are referring to the strongest Legendary? If that makes sense, should we perhaps have the term link to said page? It explains why there are no Normal or ??? plates in-universe (barring the fact ??? Arceus is just a crash preventer), as the Normal type who would have put power into them made all of them, or possibly none of them if it means each legendary made their own (though that would need verification, obviously). TsukikoKoizumi (talk) 02:19, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

How much do plates boost by?

The article doesn't state Mesuxelf 22:29, 26 June 2023 (UTC)

20%. I've updated the article accordingly. Landfish7 13:57, 27 June 2023 (UTC)
