From Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia.
This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon Gold and Silver.
These pages follow the original Game Boy Color iteration, not Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. The guide for those games can be found here.
Route 3
Route 3 is a rugged route that links Pewter City to Mt. Moon in the east.

Mt. Moon
Mt. Moon was once comprised of a large cave network, but recent collapses have left only a single chamber connecting Route 3 to Route 4. Silver appears not far from the entrance and challenges you once again. After he leaves, climb the ladder to the east.

Mt. Moon Square
Mt. Moon Square is located on the heights of the mountain, where few people ever venture. There is a small shop here that caters to weary travelers from 10:00 AM to 5:59 PM, selling health-restoring and battle-ending items.
Clefairy Dance
At 8:00 PM on Monday nights, two Clefairy appear in the field and start dancing around a large rock. When you enter the field, they get startled and run away, leaving the rock behind. If you break it with Rock Smash, a Moon Stone can be found hidden underneath. The two Clefairy return to worship the moon every week.
Enter the south side of the cave for a shortcut to the exit.
Route 4
Route 4 leads down from the mountains and eastward to Cerulean City. Collect the items, then fly back to Pewter City and head south.
