Waterfall (Japanese: たきのぼり Waterfall Climb) is a damage-dealing Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation I. It was the first move to gain HM status in a generation after it was introduced, doing so in Generation II.

Along with damage, Waterfall also has a 20% chance of causing the target to flinch.

Waterfall in the game

Allows players to climb waterfalls. Note that in Generations II and III, the HM move Waterfall is not required to go down waterfalls, whereas the first two games of Generation IV requires the HM. However, in Pokémon Platinum, the HM is not required to surf downwards.

Trivia

• Since Waterfall is a physical move in Generation IV, the Pokémon with the strongest Waterfall is Gyarados. (Rayquaza and Dragonite have a higher Attack, but they don't get STAB).
• Waterfall is one of the two HM moves learned by some Pokémon by leveling them up.
• Due to how limited Waterfall is in Generation I, some players are unaware of the fact that it even exists in Generation I.
• In Generation I, Waterfall was Goldeen and Seaking's signature move. These Pokémon remain the only ones to learn the move by level-up.
