Trivia

  • Shibibiru and its evolutionary relatives are the only Pokémon to have no weaknesses that are not Ghost/Dark-type. However, this is due to their ability, Levitate, which eliminates their sole weakness to the Ground type.
    • Also, they are the only Pokémon to have no weaknesses that have evolutionary relatives.
  • Shibibiru is the first Pokémon introduced since Generation I that evolves when exposed to a Thunderstone.
  • Despite being based on marine animals, they are not Water-type, nor can they learn any Water-type moves other than Rain Dance.
  • Despite not being genderless, Shibibiru and its evolutionary line are incapable to learn any egg moves.

Origin

Shibishirasu and its evolutionary relatives may be based on electric eels, lampreys, jawless fish and possibly leeches. The fact that it is Electric-type may be an allusion to bioluminescence.

Name origin

Its name is likely a combination of 痺れ shibire, numbness, ビリビリ biribiri, onomatopoeic word for an electric shock sound and イール īru, eel.
