The term grounded is used to describe a Pokémon that can be affected by Ground-type attacks and several other associated effects.

Ungrounded Pokémon

Several characteristics may make a Pokémon ungrounded.

By default, grounded Pokémon are simply those that are not ungrounded. However, there are also several effects that will negate a Pokémon's ungrounded status, making it grounded.

In addition, the move Roost will negate the user's Flying type for one turn, meaning it will become grounded for that turn if its type was the only thing making it ungrounded.

Also, if a grounded Poison-type Pokémon is sent out while Toxic Spikes are on that Pokémon's side of the field, it will remove them; if the Poison-type Pokémon is ungrounded, the Toxic Spikes will remain.

Immunities of ungrounded Pokémon

Ungrounded Pokémon are immune to all damaging Ground-type attacks, except Thousand Arrows.
