Vincent or Jackson (Japanese: ジュンイチ Jun'ichi) is one of the protagonists of the direct-to-TV film The Legend of Thunder!, along with Jimmy and Marina. He is a Pokémon Trainer from New Bark Town.

He has two names in the English dub. In Pokémon the Series: Gold and Silver, he is known as Jackson, while in The Legend of Thunder!, his name is Vincent.

History

His starter Pokémon was Chikorita, received from Professor Elm of New Bark Town, at the same time as Jimmy and Marina received their Cyndaquil and Totodile.

In Love, Pokémon Style, Jackson was revealed to be Ash and Macy's opponent in Division H of preliminary round-robin battle rounds of the Silver Conference. Ash later battled Macy and won against her, earning himself three points.

Jackson faced Macy in Tie One On!. The three-on-three match proved to be a close one, with both competitors down to their last Pokémon. Jackson's showboating gets the better of him, as he trips over his cape while issuing orders to Poliwhirl. Poliwhirl is left standing as Macy's Quilava delivered a final Flamethrower to win the round.

Later, Ash ventured into the Pokémon Center where he overheard the familiar voice of Professor Elm in the background. Ash walked over to the videophone and met Jackson in person for the first time. The pair greeted each other as Elm offered Jackson some encouragement for his upcoming match. Outside, Jackson's Meganium and Azumarill get into a heated fight with Ash's Bulbasaur and Squirtle over an apple. Ash and Jackson rushed outside to separate their Pokémon, but Harrison's Miltank eased the tensions with a soothing Heal Bell.

Overnight, Ash researched Jackson's team of Pokémon, and he settled on trying to counter the dynamic party based on type advantage. Ash and Jackson's round began the following day. Jackson was given the first move, and he called out his Azumarill. Ash selected Pikachu. Azumarill was eventually defeated by a close-range Thunder attack. Jackson called out his Magneton, and it defeated Pikachu and later Cyndaquil with a Thunder Wave and Tri Attack combo. Bulbasaur was Ash's final Pokémon. It dodged Jackson's winning strategy with a Vine Whip jump and exhausted Magneton with a Leech Seed.

Jackson selected his final Pokémon, Meganium. The two Grass-type Pokémon both take some heavy hits, exchanging a fury of Vine Whip and Razor Leaf attacks. A collision of Solar Beams leaves both sides fatigued. Meganium and Bulbasaur remained determined to prove themselves, though they settle their rivalry with fainting at the same time. The referee called the round a double knockout, and a draw overall between Ash and Jackson. Attention turns to the points for the three-way matches. With his four point total, Ash advanced into the next round of the Silver Conference. While Jackson's Silver Conference journey had come to an end, he shook hands with Ash and wished him the best for the battles ahead.

Jackson, named "Vincent" in the dub, appeared in The Legend of Thunder!. He and Marina were talking via a Pokémon Center videophone. The conversation was interrupted by Jimmy who went on to hang up on Vincent after he threatened to expose his crush on Marina.

Later, "Vincent" joined Eugene, Marina and Jimmy's quest to protect a Raikou from Team Rocket duo, Attila and Hun. He appeared in a cape, and ordered his Meganium to use Solar Beam to block Hun’s Steelix from using Rock Throw. The pair were forced to leap from a cliff after Steelix lashed out at them. Attila and Hun successfully captured Raikou and flew from the scene, but to "Vincent's" dismay they also caught Marina.

He, Eugene and Jimmy again confronted the Rocket duo. "Vincent" tripped in his bid to save Marina, and she ended up landing on his back. Everyone's attention turned to saving Raikou. "Vincent" and Jimmy had their Meganium and Typhlosion drain the Miracle Crystal system's energy, and eventually Raikou gained the strength to free itself. Raikou later destroyed the Miracle Crystal, which led Attila and Hun to escape. Raikou turns to "Vincent" and the others to thank them before returning to the wilderness.

Character

Jackson is an incredibly positive and cheery individual. However, he is easily distracted and has a tendency to trip over himself.

Jackson has a crush on Marina. He regularly keeps in contact with her via the Pokégear. Knowing Marina admires people who wear capes, Jackson dresses up in a cape sometimes to impress her. He has also used different personae in a bid to impress her. While it is disputed whether Jackson was one, he called himself Fabu-Vinny in The Legend of Thunder!, as Marina refers to Lance as Fabu-Lance. Jackson sees Jimmy as a rival for Marina's attraction, which is not unfounded as QuestShipping is near-canon.

Trivia

  • In the Israeli dub of The Legend of Thunder! special, Vincent was named Jackson, just as in the original series, because the error was caught by the director of the series dub, Maya Bar Shalom. His situation matches that of Eusine.
  • Jackson's name is also similar to that of Ash's Silver Conference and Ever Grande Conference opponents Harrison and Morrison. Along with the aforementioned "-son" ending, they are all named after famous singers (George Harrison, Jim Morrison and Michael Jackson respectively).
  • Vincent is shown to have a crush on Marina, who likes men who wear capes. When he was first seen in the main series, he was wearing a cape while battling Macy in Tie One On!.
