Sword & Shield Series

This card was included as a Regular card, a Full Art card, and as a Secret Rainbow Rare in the Rebel Clash expansion, first released in the Japanese Rebellion Crash expansion, each featuring Giovanni with artwork by nagimiso. The Regular print was reprinted in the Japanese Shiny Star V subset.

A new print featuring Lysandre with artwork by Ryuta Fuse was included in the Shining Fates expansion, first released in the Japanese Venusaur & Blastoise VMAX Starter Sets. In Japan, a Non Holofoil version of the Giovanni Regular print was available in the Single Strike & Rapid Strike Premium Trainer Boxes, Sword & Shield Family Pokémon Card Game set, and Zacian & Zamazenta vs Eternatus Special Deck Set. Holofoil versions of the Lysandre print were included in the V Battle Deck—Venusaur vs. Blastoise and in both of the Japanese High-Class Decks. The Lysandre print was reprinted, alongside a Full Art Secret card with artwork by NC Empire, in the Japanese VMAX Climax subset.

A new print featuring Cyrus with artwork by GIDORA was included in the Japanese Start Deck 100 and could be obtained in Non Holofoil and Mirror Holofoil versions. Holofoil and Non Holofoil Cyrus prints were also released in the Japanese Star Birth expansion and VSTAR Premium Trainer Box, respectively. The Holofoil print was later included in the Brilliant Stars expansion and concurrent V Battle Deck—Lycanroc vs. Corviknight. In Japan, Non Holofoil Cyrus prints were reprinted in both VSTAR Starter Sets and the Premium Trainer Box ex; Mirror Holofoil prints were reprinted in the Start Deck 100 CoroCoro Comic Version, in both of the VSTAR & VMAX High-Class Decks, and in the Charizard VSTAR vs Rayquaza VMAX Special Deck Set. The Full Art Lysandre print was later included in the Lost Origin expansion. The Cyrus Regular print was reprinted, alongside a Cyrus Full Art print with artwork by Mitsuhiro Arita, in the Japanese VSTAR Universe subset. The Cyrus Full Art print was later released as a SWSH Black Star Promo in the Cyrus Premium Tournament Collection from March 24, 2023. A Non Holofoil version of the Regular Cyrus card was included in various products, starting with the Trainer's Toolkit 2022.

Scarlet & Violet Series

Boss's Orders with artwork featuring Ghetsis was included as a Regular card, a Full Art ultra rare, and a special illustration rare in the Paldea Evolved expansion, first released in the Japanese Triplet Beat subset. The Regular print features artwork by NC Empire, the Full Art print features artwork by Hideki Ishikawa, while the special illustration rare print features artwork by hncl. A Non Holofoil version of the Regular Paldea Evolved print was first included in the Paldea Evolved Build & Battle Box. In Japan, the Paldea Evolved Regular print was also reprinted in two of the ex Start Decks, the Ruler of the Black Flame Deck Build Box, both Terastal Starter Sets, the Venusaur & Charizard & Blastoise Special Deck Set ex, the Shiny Treasure ex subset, both Starter Deck & Build Sets, the Pokémon Card Game Battle Academy Deck Kit, both Battle Master Decks, and the Stellar Miracle Deck Build Box.

The Rebel Clash print of Boss's Orders was reprinted in Holofoil for the Pokémon Trading Card Game Classic, although it uses its Scarlet & Violet Series text. This reprint lacks a regulation mark and is thus not legal for tournament play.

Trivia

• This card's effect is identical to Lysandre. As such, it was ruled that Lysandre and Boss's Orders could not be included in the same deck.
  • Boss's Orders was named specifically to prevent the need for future rulings such as this for subsequent prints featuring different villainous team leaders. The name of the specific team leader on each printing of this card is printed in the upper right corner. This is similar to the naming scheme of Professor's Research.

Origin

• The Rebel Clash prints feature Giovanni, formerly the head of Team Rocket and Gym Leader of Viridian City. A group of Team Rocket Grunts, a Trainer class, is also featured in the Regular print's illustration.
• The Shining Fates and Lost Origin prints feature Lysandre, the boss of Team Flare.
• The Brilliant Stars and SWSH251 prints feature Cyrus, the boss of Team Galactic.
• The Paldea Evolved prints feature Ghetsis, the leader of Team Plasma.
