Revavroom has five different Starmobileforms created by Ortega, which are only seen in battles against the respective squad bosses of Team Star and are unobtainable by players. Each of them has a different type, Ability, and signature move.
Revavroom is an inorganic Pokémon resembling a car engine. Its metallic body has an atypical arrangement, with a singular yellow eye at the front and center. The front of Revavroom's body also has a few spikes to the left and right, along with a small hole resembling a frown located just below its eye, although this hole does not function as its mouth. On Revavroom's sides are eight cylinders, each one tipped with a purple stain. The two longest cylinders reach out towards the back and flare out at the ends; these cylinders function as the Pokémon's exhaust. The remaining six cylinders sit on top of the two long cylinders, with three on each one.
Revavroom's large, cylindrical mouth is located on top of its body and resembles air filters found on muscle car engines. This mouth has jagged serrations resembling teeth and contains a long tongue, which Revavroom uses to unleash toxic fluids. The top and bottom halves of the mouth do not connect with each other.
Revavroom typically attaches itself to rocks that resemble the wheels and the body of a wagon, which it uses as a means of locomotion. It can create gas by combining the minerals in the rocks with its poison. The gas is then detonated in its cylinders to generate energy for itself. This aggressive Pokémon uses the sounds of its exhaust to threaten foes. Revavroom typically levitates and flies around in the air instead of moving on the ground. Revavroom are capable of running machines when attached to them; this is evidenced by the Starmobiles, which are vehicles Ortega created for Revavroom to run as an engine alongside Varoom. The Revavroom running the Starmobiles are larger than others of their species.
Revavroom has six forms in total, consisting of its normal form and five Starmobile forms, one for each of the Team Star bosses. These forms are non-interchangeable.
The Starmobile forms were created by Ortega and are only seen in battles against the bosses of Team Star in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, being unobtainable by the player. They each have different types and Abilities and their own signature moves.
In battle, the Starmobiles have some unique properties. They are immune to all negative status conditions (volatile or otherwise) and cannot have their types changed by moves such as Soak. Additionally, they are able to use all of their moves an indefinite number of times without being limited by PP. Transform fails if used on a Starmobile, and Imposter does not activate. They are the only Pokémon able to use each of their signature moves, as Mimic and Copycat fail to copy them and Metronome cannot call them.
In the games' code, Starmobiles are not considered proper forms of Revavroom,[1] with them instead being generated in the battles against the Team Star bosses by overwriting the previous Pokémon's data, with them having pre-set stats, Natures, types, Abilities, and moves. As a result, the Starmobiles have no IVs or EVs, and have stats that are out-of-bounds for a typical Revavroom of similar level.
The stats shown above are the exact stats, not base stats. The values are pre-set rather than being derived from base stats, level, Nature, IVs, and EVs.
Revavroom and its pre-evolution were shown in multiple trailers and gameplay showcases for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, but remained unnamed until the release of the games.
"If we were going to make a Pokémon based on the motif of a car, for example, what would it eat? Would you make it able to suck up gasoline? How would it use the energy it got from that—how would it use that source of power? Even if the design is based on a car, a Pokémon is a living creature, so we would work over and over how to express its "car-ness" and what its source of energy should be."[2]
Revavroom and its pre-evolution were designed by Yusuke Kozaki.[3]
Origin
Revavroom seems to be based on a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine, and the rocks attached to its body make Revavroom resemble an automobile. The grill and spikes on its fascia combine to form a skull, which is a common icon for toxic substances. Its nature as an engine possessed by a Pokémon and its nature as a living automobile may be inspired by tsukumogami and the Oboroguruma.
Revavroom may also draw inspiration from the flying car trope found throughout fantasy and science fiction. Revavroom's Starmobile forms seem to be based on dekotora, a Japanese style of modifying trucks with elaborate stainless steel parts, murals, and LED lights. Revavroom's access to moves such as Parting Shot, Torment, and Taunt may reference the phenomenon of road rage.
Name origin
Revavroom may be a combination of rev (to increase the running speed of an engine by pressing on the accelerator) and vroom (onomatopoetic sound of engine revving up).
Burororoom may be a combination of ぶろろろ burororo (onomatopoeia for engine sounds) and vroom. It may also involve roam.
