Goldenrod City
Goldenrod City (Japanese: コガネシティ Cogane City) is located in western Johto. It is the largest town in the region, rivaling even Kanto's Saffron City in size.
Pokémon Trainers often come to Goldenrod City in order to win the Plainbadge from Whitney, the Goldenrod Gym Leader who specializes in Normal-type Pokémon. Additionally, the Goldenrod City Dept. Store claims to have a full selection of Pokémon Goods for Trainers. It is six stories tall.
An underground path runs from the southern side of the city to the north. A pair of groomers in the tunnel will groom Pokémon to make them happier.
A Radio Tower in the city transmits Professor Oak's and DJ Mary's radio shows to PokéGears throughout Johto.
In the Games
In Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, Goldenrod City is known as "The Festive City of Opulent Charm."
A Bike Shop, a Name Rater, a Flower Shop, and a woman who rates the Happiness of Pokémon can be found in Goldenrod. Goldenrod City Game Corner feautures slot machines and interesting prizes.
The city is revealed to be the hometown of Bill and his family.
There is the National Park to the north, and a Pokémon Daycare to the south of the city.
Saffron City is connected to Goldenrod City via the Magnet Train.
Goldenrod City extends into Route 34 in the south, and Route 35 in the north.
In the Anime
When Ash, Brock, and Misty reach Goldenrod City, they are in awe of the its size and the fact that there are so many things to do. Misty plans to take advantage of the department store sales and Brock wants to meet some pretty city girls.
When Ash said he wanted some food, Brock suggested the Goldenrod Galleria. The three Pokémon trainers found, however, that getting somewhere in Goldenrod City is not as easy at it looks because many streets are dead ends. Even Whitney, a resident of Goldenrod, has a hard time getting around.
