A type-enhancing item, when held, enhances the potency of attacks whose type corresponds to the item. In Generation IV, these items boost attacks by 20%; in previous generations, they only boost attacks by 10%. For example, if a Pokémon holds Mystic Water and uses a Template:Type2 move, the power of the Water-type move will be increased by 20%.

If these items are sold, Poké Marts will pay $50 for them with the exception of Charcoal, for which Poké Marts will pay $4,900, and the Adamant, Lustrous, and Griseous Orbs for which Poké Marts will offer $5,000.

In Generation II, several of these items can only be obtained from the Week Siblings.

Trivia

  • In Generation II, there was one item that would power up each type, with the exception of the Template:Type2, which had both the Pink Bow and Polkadot Bow. In Generation IV, this is reversed, with each type powered up by one of the items as well as by a plate. The Normal-type is the exception here, as well, as the Silk Scarf is not joined by a Plate.
  • Also in Generation II, Charcoal was the only item available for purchase in a regular store, though for a steep price. In later Generations, type-enhancing items can still be purchased, but only from a Game Corner.
